Abstract: Neuromagnetic responses to tones and pseudowords were measured with a 24-channel magnetometer in nine adults and in 23 children, the latter aged 0.3-15 years. Both stimulus types elicited substantially similar responses in all subjects. At 0.9-s interstimulus interval (ISI), the adult response was a stable P1m-N1m-P2m-N2m sequence peaking at 50, 100, 200, and 250 ms, respectively. A biphasic P1m-N1,2m response with peaks at 100 and 260 ms occurred in children up to 12 years of age. At longer ISIs (1.2-2.4 s), an adult-type N1m response appeared in most children. N1m amplitude suppression at short ISIs was stronger in children than in adults and may reflect a longer refractory period of the N1 generator neurons during early childhood than later in life. Peak latencies of P1m, N1m, and N2m decreased with age, most rapidly < 7 years of age. All deflections originated in nearby cortical areas within the posterior sylvian fissure, and may serve as functional landmarks for that anatomic area.

Abstract: Setting up security associations between end-user devices is a challenging task when it needs to be done by ordinary users. The increasing popularity of powerful personal electronics with wireless communication abilities has made the problem more urgent than ever before. During the last few years, several solutions have appeared in the research literature. Several standardization bodies have also been working on improved setup procedures. All these protocols provide certain level of security, but several new questions arise, such as "how to implement this protocol so that it is easy to use?" and "is it still secure when used by a non-technical person?" In this paper, we attempt to answer these questions by carrying out a comparative usability evaluation of selected methods to derive some insights into the usability and security of these methods as well as strategies for implementing them.

Abstract: A fully pipelined implementation of the Advanced Encryption Standard encryption algorithm with 128-bit input and key length (AES-128) was implemented on Xilinx' Virtex-E and Virtex-II devices. The design is called SIG-AES-E and it implements the S-boxes combinatorially and thus requires no internal memory. It is concluded, that SIG-AES-E is faster than other published FPGA-based implementations of the AES-128 encryption algorithm.

Abstract: The generalized gradient correction method for positron-electron correlation effects in solids [B. Barbiellini et al., Phys. Rev. B 51, 7341 (1995)] is applied in several test cases. The positron lifetime, energetics, and momentum distribution of the annihilating electron-positron pairs are considered. The comparison with experiments shows systematic improvement in the predictive power of the theory compared to the local-density approximation results for positron states and annihilation characteristics. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.
