TL;DR: The results of a worldwide coordinated observational campaign on the broad-lined Type Ic supernova (SN Ic) 2003jd are presented in this paper, where the authors show that the V-band light curves of SNe Ic can be partially homogenized by introducing a time-stretch factor.
Abstract: The results of a worldwide coordinated observational campaign on the broad-lined Type Ic supernova (SN Ic) 2003jd are presented. In total, 74 photometric data points and 26 spectra were collected using 11 different telescopes. SN 2003jd is one of the most luminous SN Ic ever observed. A comparison with other Type Ic supernovae (SNe Ic) confirms that SN 2003jd represents an intermediate case between broad-line events (2002ap, 2006aj) and highly energetic SNe (1997ef, 1998bw, 2003dh, 2003lw), with an ejected mass of M_ej= 3.0 ± 1 M⊙ and a kinetic energy of E_k(tot) = 7^+3_−2 × 10^51 erg. SN 2003jd is similar to SN 1998bw in terms of overall luminosity, but it is closer to SNe 2006aj and 2002ap in terms of light-curve shape and spectral evolution. The comparison with other SNe Ic suggests that the V-band light curves of SNe Ic can be partially homogenized by introducing a time-stretch factor. Finally, because of the similarity of SN 2003jd to the SN 2006aj/XRF 060218 event, we discuss the possible connection of SN 2003jd with a gamma-ray burst (GRB).

Abstract: In 52 patients we compared the accuracy of standard anteroposterior (AP) radiography, mortise radiography and MRI with arthroscopy of the ankle for the diagnosis of a tear of the tibiofibular syndesmosis. In comparison with arthroscopy, the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy were 44.1%, 100% and 63.5% for standard AP radiography and 58.3%, 100% and 71.2% for mortise radiography. For MRI they were 100%, 93.1% and 96.2% for a tear of the anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament and 100%, 100% and 100% for a tear of the posterior inferior tibiofibular ligament. Standard AP and mortise radiography did not always provide a correct diagnosis. MRI was useful although there were two-false positive cases. We suggest that arthroscopy of the ankle is indispensable for the accurate diagnosis of a tear of the tibiofibular syndesmosis.

TL;DR: It is shown that such a minimum edge set can be determined in O ( k L|V| 4 ( k |V| + |E|) time for any graph G = (V E ) and any fixed k≧2 , where L = min { k, | V |}

TL;DR: It is suggested that autologous bone-marrow mononuclear cell (BM-MNC) implantation augments endothelium-dependent vasodilation in patients with limb ischemia.
Abstract: Background— Patients with limb ischemia were associated with endothelial dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to determine whether autologous bone-marrow mononuclear cell (BM-MNC) implantation improves endothelial dysfunction in patients with limb ischemia. Methods and Results— We evaluated the leg blood flow (LBF) response to acetylcholine (ACh), an endothelium-dependent vasodilator, and sodium nitroprusside (SNP), an endothelium-independent vasodilator, before and after BM-MNC implantation in 7 patients with limb ischemia. LBF was measured with a mercury-filled Silastic strain-gauge plethysmograph. The number of BM-MNCs implanted into ischemic limbs was 1.6×109±0.3×109. The number of CD34+ cells included in the implanted BM-MNCs was 3.8×107±1.6×107. BM-MNC implantation improved the ankle-brachial pressure index (0.33±0.21 to 0.39±0.17, P=0.06), transcutaneous oxygen pressure (28.4±11.5 to 36.6±5.2 mm Hg, P=0.03), and pain-free walking time (0.8±0.6 to 2.9±2.2 minutes, P=0.02). After BM-MNC implant...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated whether vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) or interleukin-6 (IL-6) contributes to the pathogenesis of macular edema in eyes with branch retinal vein occlusion.
Abstract: Background
To investigate whether vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) or interleukin-6 (IL-6) contributes to the pathogenesis of macular edema in eyes with branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO), the correlations between these factors were investigated.
