TL;DR: In this paper, a dual substitution strategy is proposed to enhance Li-ion mobility in garnet-structured solid electrolytes, where a first dopant cation, Ga3+, is introduced on the Li sites to stabilize the fast-conducting cubic phase.
Abstract: Solid state electrolytes could address the current safety concerns of lithium-ion batteries as well as provide higher electrochemical stability and energy density. Among solid electrolyte contenders, garnet-structured Li7La3Zr2O12 appears as a particularly promising material owing to its wide electrochemical stability window; however, its ionic conductivity remains an order of magnitude below that of ubiquitous liquid electrolytes. Here, we present an innovative dual substitution strategy developed to enhance Li-ion mobility in garnet-structured solid electrolytes. A first dopant cation, Ga3+, is introduced on the Li sites to stabilize the fast-conducting cubic phase. Simultaneously, a second cation, Sc3+, is used to partially populate the Zr sites, which consequently increases the concentration of Li ions by charge compensation. This aliovalent dual substitution strategy allows fine-tuning of the number of charge carriers in the cubic Li7La3Zr2O12 according to the resulting stoichiometry, Li7–3x+yGaxLa3Z...

TL;DR: Density functional theory simulations including dispersion provide an atomistic description of the role of different compounds in the synthesis of gold-nanorod structure through perferential adsorption of the surfactant.
Abstract: Density functional theory simulations including dispersion provide an atomistic description of the role of different compounds in the synthesis of gold-nanorods. Anisotropy is caused by the formation of a complex between the surfactant, bromine, and silver that preferentially adsorbs on some facets of the seeds, blocking them from further growth. In turn, the nanorod structure is driven by the perferential adsorption of the surfactant, which induces the appearance of open {520} lateral facets.

TL;DR: In this article, the main advances in waste tyre valorization by catalytic pyrolysis are analyzed, and a wide range of catalysts have been proposed in the literature, with zeolites being the most commonly used.
Abstract: The environmental concern associated with waste tyre disposal and the necessity of sustainable waste management policies has promoted the development of waste tyre valorization processes in the last decades. Within this framework, this review analyzes the main advances in waste tyre valorization by catalytic pyrolysis. Waste tyre pyrolysis allows converting this solid waste into three product fractions of potential interest, as are gases, pyrolysis oil (TPO) and char, with their yield and features being conditioned by pyrolysis conditions. Catalytic pyrolysis is an interesting alternative to improve the quality of the products and the selectivity of the process. A wide range of catalysts have been proposed in the literature for waste tyre valorization, with zeolites being the most commonly used due to their capacity for the production of valuable chemicals, such as BTX and light olefins. This review approaches multidisciplinary aspects for the evaluation of the critical points in this process, such as those related to pyrolysis technologies, reaction mechanisms, catalyst design and products properties.

TL;DR: The results are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions obtained for a model that assumes two interacting modes with a ratio between the coupling strength and the plasmonic losses close to 0.4, indicative of the strong coupling regime with a significant Rabi splitting estimated to be ∼200 meV.
Abstract: We experimentally and theoretically investigate the interactions between localized plasmons in gold nanorods and excitons in J-aggregates under ambient conditions. Thanks to our sample preparation procedure we are able to track a clear anticrossing behavior of the hybridized modes not only in the extinction but also in the photoluminescence (PL) spectra of this hybrid system. Notably, while previous studies often found the PL signal to be dominated by a single mode (emission from so-called lower polariton branch), here we follow the evolution of the two PL peaks as the plasmon energy is detuned from the excitonic resonance. Both the extinction and PL results are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions obtained for a model that assumes two interacting modes with a ratio between the coupling strength and the plasmonic losses close to 0.4, indicative of the strong coupling regime with a significant Rabi splitting estimated to be ∼200 meV. The evolution of the PL line shape as the plasmon is detune...
