Abstract: A search for neutral Higgs bosons in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM) decaying to tau-lepton pairs in pp collisions is performed, using events recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 24.6 fb^(−1), with 4.9 fb^(−1) at 7 TeV and 19.7 fb^(−1) at 8 TeV. To enhance the sensitivity to neutral MSSM Higgs bosons, the search includes the case where the Higgs boson is produced in association with a b-quark jet. No excess is observed in the tau-lepton-pair invariant mass spectrum. Exclusion limits are presented in the MSSM parameter space for different benchmark scenarios, m_h^(max), m_h^(mod)_ +, m_h^(mod)_ -, light-stop, light-stau, τ-phobic, and low-m_H. Upper limits on the cross section times branching fraction for gluon fusion and b-quark associated Higgs boson production are also given.

Abstract: We present a new algorithm for computing the free distance d/sub free/ of parallel and serially concatenated codes with interleavers, the parameter that dominates the code performance at very high signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). The knowledge of d/sub free/ allows one to analytically estimate the error floor, which may prevent the use of concatenated codes in applications requiring very low error rates. The algorithm is based on the new notion of constrained subcodes, and permits the computation of large distances for large interleavers without a constraint on the input sequence weight (e.g., up to d/sub free/=40 for a rate-1/3 turbo code with interleaver length N=3568). Applications to practical cases of relevant interest, i.e., (1) the new Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) standard for deep-space telemetry and (2) the new UMTS/3GPP standard for third-generation personal communications, are presented for the first time. Other related aspects, like a study on the free distance distribution of turbo codes with small/medium interleaver length, and a comparison between parallel and serial concatenation behavior, are also discussed.

Abstract: A total of 98 non-symbiotic endophytic bacterial strains isolated from soybean root nodules were classified into eight rDNA types in ARDRA analysis and 21 BOX types in BOX-PCR. The phylogenetic analysis of 16S rDNA identified these strains as Pantoea, Serratia, Acinetobacter, Bacillus, Agrobacterium, and Burkholderia. Limited genetic diversity was revealed among these bacteria since most of the strains (85.7%) were found in three very similar rDNA types corresponding to Pantoea agglomerans, and many strains shared the same BOX-PCR patterns. The inoculation of nodule endophytes had no significant effects on the growth and nodulation of soybean, but most of the strains produced indoleacetic acid (IAA), could solubilize mineral phosphate, and could fix nitrogen, implying that they are a valuable pool for discovering plant growth promoting bacteria. Our results demonstrated that the nodule endophytes were common in soybean and their diversity was affected by the plant's character and the soil conditions. The 99% similarities found in the nifH genes of Bradyrhizobium japonicum and of the endophytic Bacillus strains strongly indicated that horizontal transfer of symbiotic genes happened between the symbiotic bacteria and the endophytes.
