TL;DR: In this paper, Bieniek and Szynal presented certain characterizations of univariate continuous distributions based on the conditional expectation of adjacent generalized order statistics, which attracted the attention of many researchers.
Abstract: Characterizations of probability distributions by different regression conditions on generalized order statistics have attracted the attention of many researchers, in particular Bieniek and Szynal (2003), Cramer et al. (2004), and Bieniek (2007, 2009). We present here certain characterizations of univariate continuous distributions based on the conditional expectation of adjacent generalized order statistics.

TL;DR: Gender-specific effects of welfare reform on skipping school, fighting, damaging property, stealing, hurting others, smoking, alcohol, marijuana, and other illicit drugs are identified.
Abstract: This study investigates effects of welfare reform in the United States on the next generation. Most previous studies of effects of welfare reform on adolescents focused on high-school dropout of girls or fertility; little is known about how welfare reform has affected other teenage behaviors or boys. We use a difference-in-difference-in-differences framework to identify gender-specific effects of welfare reform on skipping school, fighting, damaging property, stealing, hurting others, smoking, alcohol, marijuana, and other illicit drugs. Welfare reform led to increases in delinquent behaviors of boys as well as increases in substance use of boys and girls, with substantially larger effects for boys.

TL;DR: The Russian archives constitute an untapped reservoir of materials concerning nineteenth-century Thessaloniki as discussed by the authors, and during the middle decades of the century the Russian state forwarded its policy through its viceconsul, Angelo Mustoxidi, whose remarkable career sheds light on Russian policy, and typifies the experience of Greeks in Russian service who worked to implement tsarist prerogatives while representing the claims of their co-ethnics.
Abstract: Russian archives constitute an untapped reservoir of materials concerning nineteenth-century Thessaloniki. Russian interests in the port and region ranged over a variety of topics, including safeguarding Black Sea commerce and protecting Orthodox Christians, dealing with the vagaries of Ottoman politics, and maintaining reliable pilgrimage routes to Mount Athos and the Holy Land. During the middle decades of the century the Russian state forwarded its policy through its vice-consul, Angelo Mustoxidi, whose remarkable career sheds light on Russian policy, and typifies the experience of Greeks in Russian service who worked to implement tsarist prerogatives while representing the claims of their co-ethnics.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the lead/lag relationship between the variation of the 10 primary sector indexes (sector dispersion) with market returns and market volatility, and found that high sector dispersion is a consistent predictor of market volatility.
Abstract: This paper investigates the lead/lag relationship between the variation of the 10 primary sector indexes (sector dispersion) with market returns and market volatility The sample consists of US data from January 1974 through December 2003 This study documents a statistically significant lead/lag relationship between sector dispersion and both market returns and market volatility Asymmetry analysis reveals that high sector dispersion is a consistent predictor of market volatility Dispersion is found to be an effective predictor of bear market volatility, and both bull market and bear market returns

TL;DR: In this paper, the conditional expecta- tion (also known as mean residual life) of a distribution plays important roles in modeling and analysis of life time data, and new results on characterizations of Rayleigh distribution based on order statistics and record values have been established.
Abstract: In this paper, some new results on characterizations of Rayleigh distribution based on order statistics and record values have been established. The conditional expecta- tion (also known as mean residual life) of a distribution plays important roles in modeling and analysis of life time data. Some results on characterizations based on mean residual life have also been established.
