TL;DR: In this article, a comparison of temperature dependences of the Raman spectra of rhombohedral antiferromagnetic LaMnO 3 and ferromagnetic magnetoresistive La 0.98 Mn 0.96 O 3 (T c ≈ 200 K) was performed.
Abstract: Comparative study of temperature dependences of the Raman spectra of rhombohedral antiferromagnetic LaMnO 3 (T N ≈ 150 K) and ferromagnetic magnetoresistive La 0.98 Mn 0.96 O 3 (T c ≈ 200 K) confirms the assignment of the two broad high frequency Raman bands to dynamical Jahn-Teller lattice distortions and allows to monitor the variations of distortion amplitudes and polaronic lifetime through the insulator-metal transition in La 0.98 Mn 0.96 O 3 .

TL;DR: The successful grafting of organometallic moieties by direct bonding of a cyclopentadienyl ligand to electrode surfaces expands the chemical and electrochemical dimensions of diazonium-based modified electrodes.
Abstract: Two organometallic complexes having cyclopentadienyldiazonium ligands have been isolated and characterized by spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, and electrochemistry. Both CoCp(η5-C5H4N2)2+ (22+) and Mn(CO)3(η5-C5H4N2)+ (3+) undergo facile cyclopentadienyldiazonium ligand-based one-electron reductions which liberate dinitrogen and result in strong binding of the cyclopentadienyl ligand to a glassy carbon surface, similar to the processes well established for organic aryldiazonium salts. The organometallic-modified electrodes are robust and have a thickness of approximately one monolayer (Γ = (2−4) × 10−10 mol cm−2). Their voltammetric responses are as expected for a cobaltocenium-modified electrode, [CoCp(η5-C5H4-E)]+, where Cp = cyclopentadienyl and E = electrode, and a “cymantrene”-modified electrode Mn(CO)3(η5-C5H4-E). The cobaltocenium electrode has two cathodic surface waves. The first (E1/2 = −1.34 V vs ferrocene) is highly reversible, whereas the second (Epc = −2.4 V) is not, consistent with the ...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the standardization of graphical representations of managerial accounting information at the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) during the 1920s and found that this innovation in management practice promoted operational efficiency by reducing the uncertainty associated with internal informational asymmetries that frequently arise in enterprises of great scale, scope and complexity.
Abstract: Drawing principally on archival resources, this study examines the standardization of graphical representations of managerial accounting information at the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) during the 1920s. This innovation in management practice promoted operational efficiency by reducing the uncertainty associated with internal informational asymmetries that frequently arise in enterprises of great scale, scope and complexity. This change also invigorated management accounting and reduced risk perceptions by providing clearer delineation of important trends and relationships in a dynamic business environment. The innovative practices extended the vision of top management and, thus, strengthened their ability to coordinate and control the enterprise’s business activities. This new form of organizational learning was also adaptive, drawing on well established approaches followed in the firm’s extensive range of scientific and engineering endeavors. It shaped corporate culture in important wa...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors attempted to unfold consumer impulsivity by gathering in-depth stories from persons whose impulsivity is a lifetime trait because of their attention deficit disorder (ADD/ADHD).
Abstract: This article attempts to unfold consumer impulsivity by gathering in-depth stories from persons whose impulsivity is a lifetime trait because of their attention deficit disorder (ADD/ADHD). The manuscript provides overviews of impulsivity, ADD, and impulsive consumer behavior. Insights into possible consumer-behavior challenges are offered from an information-processing perspective. Through thematic analysis of the respondents’ lifetime stories, this study helps illuminate the black box of the consumer’s mind with respect to impulsive consumption, by relating impulsive consumer behavior to specific problems in information processing. As such, it not only contributes to understanding of the consumer behavior of those with ADD, but also presents a kinder and gentler picture of consumers who are dealing with information overload and frustration, rather than what might be a more common stereotype of consumers who are simply out of control. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
