TL;DR: In this article, the Drell-Yan cross section was measured using an integrated luminosity of 4.5 (4.8) fb−1 in the dimuon (dielectron) channel of proton-proton collision data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at s√ = 7 TeV.
Abstract: Measurements of the differential and double-differential Drell-Yan cross sections are presented using an integrated luminosity of 4.5 (4.8) fb−1 in the dimuon (dielectron) channel of proton-proton collision data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at s√ = 7 TeV. The measured inclusive cross section in the Z-peak region (60–120 GeV) is σ(ll) = 986.4 ± 0.6 (stat.) ± 5.9 (exp. syst.) ± 21.7 (th. syst.) ± 21.7 (lum.) pb for the combination of the dimuon and dielectron channels. Differential cross sections dσ/dm for the dimuon, dielectron, and combined channels are measured in the mass range 15 to 1500 GeV and corrected to the full phase space. Results are also presented for the measurement of the double-differential cross section d2σ/dm d|y| in the dimuon channel over the mass range 20 to 1500 GeV and absolute dimuon rapidity from 0 to 2.4. These measurements are compared to the predictions of perturbative QCD calculations at next-to-leading and next-to-next-to-leading orders using various sets of parton distribution functions.

TL;DR: Test results show that microservices can help reduce infrastructure costs in comparison to standard monolithic architectures, and the use of services specifically designed to deploy and scale microservices reduces infrastructure costs by 70% or more.
Abstract: Large Internet companies like Amazon, Netflix, and LinkedIn are using the microservice architecture pattern to deploy large applications in the cloud as a set of small services that can be developed, tested, deployed, scaled, operated and upgraded independently. However, aside from gaining agility, independent development, and scalability, infrastructure costs are a major concern for companies adopting this pattern. This paper presents a cost comparison of a web application developed and deployed using the same scalable scenarios with three different approaches: 1) a monolithic architecture, 2) a microservice architecture operated by the cloud customer, and 3) a microservice architecture operated by the cloud provider. Test results show that microservices can help reduce infrastructure costs in comparison to standard monolithic architectures. Moreover, the use of services specifically designed to deploy and scale microservices reduces infrastructure costs by 70% or more. Lastly, we also describe the challenges we faced while implementing and deploying microservice applications.1

TL;DR: In this article, a search for narrow resonances in proton-proton collisions at square root(s) = 13 TeV is presented, and the invariant mass distribution of the two leading jets is measured with the CMS detector using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.4 inverse femtobarns.
Abstract: A search for narrow resonances in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 13 TeV is presented. The invariant mass distribution of the two leading jets is measured with the CMS detector using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.4 inverse femtobarns. The highest observed dijet mass is 6.1 TeV. The distribution is smooth and no evidence for resonant particles is observed. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross section for narrow resonances with masses above 1.5 TeV. When interpreted in the context of specific models, the limits exclude string resonances with masses below 7.0 TeV, scalar diquarks below 6.0 TeV, axigluons and colorons below 5.1 TeV, excited quarks below 5.0 TeV, color-octet scalars below 3.1 TeV, and W' bosons below 2.6 TeV. These results significantly extend previously published limits.

TL;DR: In this article, the photo-fenton process was explored as photochemical pre-treatment to improve the biodegradability of a wastewater coming from a textile industry located in the south of France, which was characterized as very biorecalcitrant by means of Zahn-Wellens bioregradability test.
Abstract: Photo-Fenton process was explored as photochemical pre-treatment to improve the biodegradability of a wastewater coming from a textile industry located in the south of France, which was characterized as very biorecalcitrant by means of Zahn–Wellens biodegradability test. The effect of H2O2, Fe(III) and temperature on the photo-mineralization processes have been studied and the optimal conditions were found. Experiments were made to obtain information concerning the evolution of the biodegradability of the treated effluent after 40 and 70% of photo-mineralization. The photo-treated effluent is not biocompatible and its complete mineralization cannot be performed by biological means. UV–VIS and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analyses show that aromatic intermediates remain in the effluent after the photo-treatment, which have been identified as the principal reason of the biorecalcitrance.

TL;DR: A coculture with about equal amounts of n-damo and anammox bacteria was established that converted nitrite at a rate of 0.1 kg-N/m3/day (17.2 mmol day−1), indicating that the application of such a coculture for nitrogen removal may be feasible in the near future.
Abstract: itrite-dependent anaerobic oxidation of methane (n-damo) and ammonium (anammox) are two recently discovered processes in the nitrogen cycle that are catalyzed by n-damo bacteria, including "Candidatus Methylomirabilis oxyfera," and anammox bacteria, respectively. The feasibility of coculturing anammox and n-damo bacteria is important for implementation in wastewater treatment systems that contain substantial amounts of both methane and ammonium. Here we tested this possible coexistence experimentally. To obtain such a coculture, ammonium was fed to a stable enrichment culture of n-damo bacteria that still contained some residual anammox bacteria. The ammonium supplied to the reactor was consumed rapidly and could be gradually increased from 1 to 20 mM/day. The enriched coculture was monitored by fluorescence in situ hybridization and 16S rRNA and pmoA gene clone libraries and activity measurements. After 161 days, a coculture with about equal amounts of n-damo and anammox bacteria was established that converted nitrite at a rate of 0.1 kg-N/m(3)/day (17.2 mmol day(-1)). This indicated that the application of such a coculture for nitrogen removal may be feasible in the near future.
