TL;DR: It is suggested that among brown spider monkeys, physical contact impacts the spread of several common parasites and supports the idea that pathogen transmission is one cost associated with social contact.
Abstract: Elevated risk of disease transmission is considered a major cost of sociality, although empirical evidence supporting this idea remains scant. Variation in spatial cohesion and the occurrence of social interactions may have profound implications for patterns of interindividual parasite transmission. We used a social network approach to shed light on the importance of different aspects of group-living (i.e. within-group associations versus physical contact) on patterns of parasitism in a neotropical primate, the brown spider monkey ( Ateles hybridus ), which exhibits a high degree of fission–fusion subgrouping. We used daily subgroup composition records to create a ‘proximity’ network, and built a separate ‘contact’ network using social interactions involving physical contact. In the proximity network, connectivity between individuals was homogeneous, whereas the contact network highlighted high between-individual variation in the extent to which animals had physical contact with others, which correlated with an individual's age and sex. The gastrointestinal parasite species richness of highly connected individuals was greater than that of less connected individuals in the contact network, but not in the proximity network. Our findings suggest that among brown spider monkeys, physical contact impacts the spread of several common parasites and supports the idea that pathogen transmission is one cost associated with social contact.

TL;DR: The problem of private information retrieval (PIR) from coded storage systems with colluding, Byzantine, and unresponsive servers is considered and an explicit scheme using an explicit LaTeX notation is designed, adapted to symmetric PIR.
Abstract: The problem of private information retrieval (PIR) from coded storage systems with colluding, Byzantine, and unresponsive servers is considered. An explicit scheme using an $[n,k]$ Reed–Solomon storage code is designed, protecting against $t$ -collusion, and handling up to $b$ Byzantine and $r$ unresponsive servers, when $n>k+t+2b+r-1$ . This scheme achieves a PIR rate of $(({n-r-(k+2b+t-1)})/{n-r})$ . In the case where the capacity is known, namely, when $k=1$ , it is asymptotically capacity achieving as the number of files grows. Finally, the scheme is adapted to symmetric PIR.

TL;DR: In this paper, an inclusive search for supersymmetry in events with at least one b-tagged jet is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS experiment in 2012 at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV.
Abstract: An inclusive search for supersymmetry in events with at least one b-tagged jet is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS experiment in 2012 at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The data set size corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.3 fb^(−1). The two-dimensional distribution of the razor variables R^2 and M _R is studied in events with and without leptons. The data are found to be consistent with the expected background, which is modeled with an empirical function. Exclusion limits on supersymmetric particle masses at a 95% confidence level are derived in several simplified supersymmetric scenarios for several choices of the branching fractions. By combining the likelihoods of a search in events without leptons and a search that requires a single lepton (electron or muon), an improved bound on the top-squark mass is obtained. Assuming the lightest supersymmetric particle to be stable and weakly interacting, and to have a mass of 100 GeV, the branching-fraction-dependent (-independent) production of gluinos is excluded for gluino masses up to 1310 (1175) GeV. The corresponding limit for top-squark pair production is 730 (645) GeV.

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of violence on risk attitudes were analyzed in a group of victims of violence in Colombia and collected data on the severity and temporal proximity of their exposure to violence and on their symptoms of psychological trauma.
