TL;DR: The field of learning analytics has the potential to enable higher education institutions to increase their understanding of their students' learning needs and to use that understanding to positively influence student learning and progression as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The field of learning analytics has the potential to enable higher education institutions to increase their understanding of their students’ learning needs and to use that understanding to positively influence student learning and progression. Analysis of data relating to students and their engagement with their learning is the foundation of this process. There is an inherent assumption linked to learning analytics that knowledge of a learner’s behavior is advantageous for the individual, instructor, and educational provider. It seems intuitively obvious that a greater understanding of a student cohort and the learning designs and interventions they best respond to would benefit students and, in turn, the institution’s retention and success rate. Yet collection of data and their use face a number of ethical challenges, including location and interpretation of data; informed consent, privacy, and deidentification of data; and classification and management of data. Approaches taken to understand the opportu...

TL;DR: Transformation of the health system into a national institution that is based on equity and merit and is built on an effective human-resources system could still place South Africa on track to achieve Millennium Development Goals 4, 5, and 6 and would enhance the lives of its citizens.

TL;DR: Thermodynamic study revealed that the adsorption process is endothermic and spontaneous in nature and the regenerated adsorbent can be reused successfully for two successive adsorptive-desorption cycles without appreciable loss of its original capacity.

TL;DR: In this paper, the multivariate asymptotic distribution of sequential Chi-square test statistics is investigated, and it is shown that the statistics of Chi-squaredifference tests have an asymptic intercorrelation which may be expressed in closed form and which is, in many cases, quite high.
Abstract: The multivariate asymptotic distribution of sequential Chi-square test statistics is investigated. It is shown that: (a) when sequential Chi-square statistics are calculated for nested models on the same data, the statistics have an asymptotic intercorrelation which may be expressed in closed form, and which is, in many cases, quite high; and (b) sequential Chi-squaredifference tests are asymptotically independent. Some Monte Carlo evidence on the applicability of the theory is provided.

TL;DR: A review of the available prevention of acid mine drainage generation, treatment options and their importance in light of the future perspectives are briefly discussed in this paper, where the possible resources to be recovered such as ferric hydroxide, ferrite, rare earth metals, sulphur and sulphuric acid and their economic benefit are discussed.
