Abstract: A novel growth method (carbon molecular beam epitaxy (CMBE)) has been developed to produce high-quality and large-area epitaxial graphene. This method demonstrates significantly improved controllability of the graphene growth. CMBE with C(60) produces AB stacked graphene, while growth with the graphite filament results in non-Bernal stacked graphene layers with a Dirac-like electronic structure, which is similar to graphene grown by thermal decomposition on SiC (000-1).

TL;DR: In this article, a time-dependent, axisymmetric, third-order-accurate computational-fluid-dynamics-based model was studied using a jet diffusion flame, and the outer-vortex structures were developed as part of the solution, while a weak shear-layer perturbation was required to generate the inner structures.

TL;DR: In this article, a series of metal-containing brominated tetraphenylporphyrin (MOBP) reverse-saturable absorber (RSA) dyes were synthesized.
Abstract: To develop more efficient materials to be used in optical limiters, we have synthesized a series of metal-containing brominated tetraphenylporphyrin (MOBP) reverse-saturable absorber (RSA) dyes. ZnOBP was the highest efficiency RSA chromophore. Moreover, ZnOBP had nonlinear absorption that compared well to state-of-the-art phthalocyanine RSA dyes. The results suggest that other factors (ring nonplanarity, halogenation) influence limiting behavior as well as insertion of heavy metal atoms into the ring.

TL;DR: A chiral metamaterial mirror that strongly absorbs a circularly polarized wave of one spin state and reflects that of the opposite spin in a manner conserving the circular polarization is reported.
Abstract: Conventional metallic mirrors flip the spin of a circularly polarized wave upon normal incidence by inverting the direction of the propagation vector. Altering or maintaining the spin state of ligh...
