Journal ArticleDOI

Burden of valvular heart disease, 1990-2017: Results from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2017.

TL;DR: The burden from different VHDs demonstrated a diverse change at a global level between 1990 and 2017, and a substantially high incidence of NRVHD was observed over this time period, which may lead to high health care costs and signify the potential for even higher costs in the future.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement in patients with concomitant mitral stenosis.

TL;DR: Concomitant MS was documented in approximately one-fifth of patients undergoing TAVR for severe, symptomatic AS and associated with a three-fold increased risk of cardiovascular adverse events at 1 year, largely driven by patients with rheumatic MS.
Journal ArticleDOI

Curcumin inhibits calcification of human aortic valve interstitial cells by interfering NF-κB, AKT, and ERK pathways.

TL;DR: In conclusion, CCM inhibited the osteogenic differentiation of hVICs via interfering with the activation of NF-κB/AKT/ERK signaling pathways and shed new light on CCM-directed therapeutics for CAVD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement for bicuspid aortic valve stenosis with first- and new-generation bioprostheses: A systematic review and meta-analysis

TL;DR: BAV patients treated with TAVR had similar 30-day and 1-year mortality as well as stroke and new pacemaker implantation rates compared to TAV subjects, but carried higher risk of moderate/severe PVL, conversion to surgery and device failure.

Developed with the special contribution of the Heart Failure Association (HFA) of the ESC.

TL;DR: Authors/Task Force Members: Piotr Ponikowski* (Chairperson) (Poland), Adriaan A. Voors* (Co-Chair person) (The Netherlands), Stefan D. Anker (Germany), Héctor Bueno (Spain), John G. F. Cleland (UK), Andrew J. S. Coats (UK)

Transcatheter Aortic-Valve Implantation for Aortic Stenosis in Patients Who Cannot Undergo Surgery

TL;DR: In patients with severe aortic stenosis who were not suitable candidates for surgery, TAVI, as compared with standard therapy, significantly reduced the rates of death from any cause, the composite end point of deathFrom any cause or repeat hospitalization, and cardiac symptoms, despite the higher incidence of major strokes and major vascular events.
