Journal ArticleDOI

Twenty year follow-up after successful percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty in a large contemporary series of patients with mitral stenosis.

TL;DR: Up to 20 years after successful PMV, a sizeable proportion of patients still exhibit a good clinical result, and the primary endpoint was 20-year incidence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE), including cardiovascular death and need for mitral surgery or repeat PMV.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impact of early surgery on survival of patients with severe mitral regurgitation

TL;DR: In patients with severe MR who presented with guideline indications for surgery, those selected for earlier surgery had improved survival, and current guidelines for early referral to surgery in patients withsevere MR for enlarged left ventricular dimensions, reduced ejection fraction and symptoms rather than delaying surgery are supported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Urgent Cardiac Surgery During Pregnancy: A Continuous Challenge

TL;DR: Urgent and emergency valve replacement in pregnant women can be achieved with good maternal morbidity and mortality; however, high incidence of fetal losses might be expected when surgery is performed at an early gestational age.

Usefulness of Carvedilol in the Treatment of Chronic Aortic Valve Regurgitation

TL;DR: Carvedilol exerted protective effects against volume-overload cardiomyopathy in this model of aortic valve regurgitation with preserved ejection fraction, suggesting a protective class effect of &bgr;-blockers.
