A modification of the Lowry procedure to simplify protein determination in membrane and lipoprotein samples

TLDR
The original Lowry method of protein determination has been modified by the addition of sodium dodecyl sulfate in the alkali reagent and an increase in the amount of copper tartrate reagent to be used with membrane and lipoprotein preparations without prior solubilization or lipid extraction.

Book ChapterDOI

Quantitation of protein.

TL;DR: This chapter discusses various methods of estimating protein concentration as defined by the difference in energy between the orbital of the unexcited electron and a higher energy orbital.

Stabilization of α-Synuclein Secondary Structure upon Binding to Synthetic Membranes

TL;DR: It is reported that α-synuclein binds to small unilamellarospholipid vesicles containing acidic phospholipids, but not to vesicular charges with a net neutral charge, consistent with a role in vesicle function at the presynaptic terminal.
Journal ArticleDOI

Review of the Folin phenol protein quantitation method of Lowry, Rosebrough, Farr and Randall.

TL;DR: The method of Lowry and coworkers combined the use of copper, as suggested by Herriott, with the Folin phenol method, which originated from the work of Wu, to produce a more reliable and sensitive protein analysis.

Targeted disruption of the class B scavenger receptor CD36 protects against atherosclerotic lesion development in mice

TL;DR: Results support a major role for CD36 in atherosclerotic lesion development in vivo and suggest that blockade of CD36 can be protective even in more extreme proatherogenic circumstances.
Journal ArticleDOI

Association between myeloperoxidase levels and risk of coronary artery disease.

TL;DR: Elevated levels of leukocyte- and blood-MPO are associated with the presence of CAD, and a potential role for MPO as an inflammatory marker in CAD is supported and may have implications for atherosclerosis diagnosis and risk assessment.

Protein Measurement with the Folin Phenol Reagent

TL;DR: Procedures are described for measuring protein in solution or after precipitation with acids or other agents, and for the determination of as little as 0.2 gamma of protein.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assay of proteins in the presence of interfering materials.

TL;DR: The Lowry protein assay is a sensitive but highly nonspecific procedure that has been modified so that protein can be assayed in the presence of interfering chemicals.
Journal ArticleDOI

A simple technique for eliminating interference by detergents in the Lowry method of protein determination.

TL;DR: The addition of 0.5% sodium dodecylsulphate in the alkali reagent prevented this precipitation without affecting colour development, and allowed the Lowry method to be used on detergent treated membrane preparations.
Journal ArticleDOI

A rapid spectrophotometric assay for carnitine palmitoyltransferase.

TL;DR: The experimental conditions for a rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric assay for carnitine palMIToyltransferase (CPT) are described and the amount of reduced CoA liberated from palmitoyl CoA by CPT is quantitated using 5,5′-dithiobis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB).
