TLDR
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed in this paper, where tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed, ranging from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, and the development of jump process formulations.
Abstract
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed. The class of linear systems is concentrated on but the basic concepts, if not the detailed analyses, carry over to other classes of systems. The methods surveyed range from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, to the development of jump process formulations. Tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed.

Fault detection using RBFN- and AR-based general parameter methods

TL;DR: The efficient GP approach for initializing the weights of the RBFN model in the beginning of the off-line system identification phase, as well as for fine-tuning the modeling accuracy of RBFN and AR models online, provide competitive alternatives for real-world fault detection and diagnosis.

Aircraft sensor estimation for fault tolerant flight control system using fully connected cascade neural network

TL;DR: The neuron by neuron (NBN) learning algorithm is combined with the fully connected cascade (FCC) neural network architecture to estimate an aircraft's sensor measurements and the developed sensor estimators can replicate a sensor's measurements with as little as 2 neurons.

On-Line Trajectory Encoding for Discrete-Observation Process Monitoring

TL;DR: The trajectory encoding method for process monitoring that is specifically designed to handle this type of information is presented, and its application to computer-controlled industrial processes is described.

Diagnosis of on-board sensors in internal combustion (IC) engines

TL;DR: In this article, a binary phase detection filter (BPDF) is proposed for sensor diagnosis in electronically controlled internal combustion engines, which is based on the failure detection and isolation (FDI) theory.
