TLDR
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed in this paper, where tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed, ranging from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, and the development of jump process formulations.
Abstract
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed. The class of linear systems is concentrated on but the basic concepts, if not the detailed analyses, carry over to other classes of systems. The methods surveyed range from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, to the development of jump process formulations. Tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed.

Delays in fault detection and isolation

TL;DR: Studies an aspect of detection and isolation delays which has been ignored in many papers in this area and shows that by designing specifically to reduce the detection or isolation delay the authors can get better results compared to most designs as available in the literature.

Device and method for determining a physical quantity

TL;DR: In this article, a method and a device for determining a physical quantity from a number of measured values containing errors is presented, in which first a grouping of the number of measures containing errors into a plurality of subgroups of measured value is executed, wherein each subgroup comprises a redundancy, so that more measured values than the quantity of measured quantities are contained in each sub group.

Joint Kalman Filtering and Recursive Maximum Likelihood Estimation Approaches to Fault Detection and Identification of Boeing 747 Sensors and Actuators

TL;DR: In this article, a joint state and parameter estimation scheme is applied to address the problem of detection and identification of loss of effectiveness faults in both sensors or the actuators of a Boeing 747 longitudinal model.
