TLDR
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed in this paper, where tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed, ranging from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, and the development of jump process formulations.
Abstract
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed. The class of linear systems is concentrated on but the basic concepts, if not the detailed analyses, carry over to other classes of systems. The methods surveyed range from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, to the development of jump process formulations. Tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed.

Actuator fault tolerant multi-controller scheme using set separation based diagnosis

TL;DR: A new FDI principle is proposed which exploits the separation of sets that characterise healthy system operation from sets thatcharacterise transitions from healthy to faulty behaviour to provide pre-checkable conditions for guaranteed fault tolerance of the overall multi-controller scheme.

On Model-Based Detectors for Linear Time-Invariant Stochastic Systems Under Sensor Attacks

TL;DR: The authors characterise the state degradation that a class of attacks can induce the system while enforcing that the detectors (CUSUM and chi-squared) do not raise alarms and find the upper bound of state degradationthat is possible by an undetected attacker.

Fault detection in sensor information fusion Kalman filter

TL;DR: In this paper, an approach to the test of the sensor information fusion Kalman filter is proposed based on the introduced statistics of mathematical expectation of the spectral norm of a normalized innovation matrix.

Information flow for security in control systems

TL;DR: This paper proposes the Kullback Liebler (KL) divergence as a causal measure of information flow, which quantifies the effect of adversarial inputs on sensor outputs, and shows that the proposed measure characterizes the resilience of control systems to specific attack strategies by relating the KL divergence to optimal detection.
