TLDR
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed in this paper, where tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed, ranging from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, and the development of jump process formulations.
Abstract
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed. The class of linear systems is concentrated on but the basic concepts, if not the detailed analyses, carry over to other classes of systems. The methods surveyed range from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, to the development of jump process formulations. Tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed.

A knowledge-based approach to instrument fault detection and isolation

TL;DR: In this article, a knowledge-based instrument fault detection and isolation (IFDI) technique is proposed and described, based on the "duplication" of measurement devices by means of suitable mathematical relationships and is implemented on an expert system.

Optimal simultaneous detection and estimation of filtered discrete semi-Markov chains

TL;DR: An optimal algorithm for the detection of noisy filtered discrete semi-Markov chains is presented, carried out numerically by a combination of gradient, divide-and-conquer, and search techniques as the integer most likely search detector.

Dynamic state estimation in the presence of compromised sensory data

TL;DR: This article proves that if after removing a set of 2γ sensors, the system is undetectable, then there exists a destabilizing noise process and attacker's input to render the estimation error unbounded, and construction of a resilient estimator is provided.

Fault detection for linear uncertain systems with sensor faults

TL;DR: In this paper, a steady-state-based approach is proposed to detect sensor faults with arbitrary small magnitudes, which can be used to detect lock-in-place sensor faults.

Nonparametric Sequential Change-Point Detection by a Vertically Trimmed Box Method

TL;DR: A nonparametric detection rule is proposed which relies on the concept of a moving vertically trimmed box which may provide quick detection with zero delay for jumps of moderate sizes and its averaged run length to detection is more favorable than the one for the classical EWMA method.
