TLDR
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed in this paper, where tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed, ranging from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, and the development of jump process formulations.
Abstract
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed. The class of linear systems is concentrated on but the basic concepts, if not the detailed analyses, carry over to other classes of systems. The methods surveyed range from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, to the development of jump process formulations. Tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed.

Fault-tolerant Control Systems—An Introductory Overview

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an introductory overview on the development of fault-tolerant con- trol systems and highlight some important issues from a historical perspective from a practical and industrial perspective.
Journal ArticleDOI

Brief paper: Active fault detection and control: Unified formulation and optimal design

TL;DR: A new unified formulation of the active fault detection and control problem for discrete-time stochastic systems and its optimal solution are proposed, derived using the so-called closed loop information processing strategy.

Robust residual generation for linear fault diagnosis: an algebraic setting with examples

TL;DR: The methods, which are mainly of algebraic flavour (module theory, differential algebra, and operational calculus), are borrowed from recent works on control and identification, and it is hoped that the results might be understood by a large community.

Industrial application of neural networks — an investigation

TL;DR: The main conclusion from the work was that neural networks are capable of improving industrial process monitoring and control systems, however, the level of improvement must be analysed on a problem specific basis and in many applications the use of neural networks may not be justified.

Dynamic Attack Detection in Cyber-Physical Systems With Side Initial State Information

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of side initial state information on the detectability of data deception attacks against cyber-physical systems is studied and a necessary and sufficient condition for an attack to be undetectable by any dynamic attack detector under each specific side information pattern is provided.
