TLDR
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed in this paper, where tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed, ranging from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, and the development of jump process formulations.
Abstract
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed. The class of linear systems is concentrated on but the basic concepts, if not the detailed analyses, carry over to other classes of systems. The methods surveyed range from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, to the development of jump process formulations. Tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed.

Application of fault detection and identification (FDI) techniques in power regulating systems of nuclear reactors

TL;DR: In this article, a Kalman filter-based failure detection and identification (FDI) algorithm for power regulating systems of nuclear reactors is presented. But the application of FDI algorithms have essentially been limited to identification of a global fault in the system, and no further attempts have been made to locate subcomponent faults for root cause analysis.

Model-free actuator fault detection using a spectral estimation approach: the case of the DAMADICS benchmark problem

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the application to the DAMADICS benchmark fault detection problem of a model-free fault detection technique based on the use of a specific spectral analysis tool, namely, the Squared Coherency Functions (SCFs), which is sensitive to the occurrence of significative changes in the plant dynamics.

Actuator Fault Detection in Nonlinear Uncertain Systems Using Neural On-line Approximation Models

TL;DR: The paper defines and analyses the fault dynamics i.e., the dynamical properties of a failure process, and a rigorous detectability condition is given for actuator faults in nonlinear systems relating the actuator desired input signal and neural net-based observer sensitivity.

Detection of abrupt changes in signals and dynamical systems : Some statistical aspects

TL;DR: The aim of this paper is to present some points of this detection problem, with a particular emphasis on the statistical aspects, leaving out the system theoretic aspects, which are of great importance in the control context, or, more generally, in the case of multichannel signal processing.

Test Statistics in Kalman Filtering

TL;DR: In this article, the authors systematically examine the test statistics in Kalman filter on the ground of the normal, 2χ-, t- and F- distributions, and the strategies for global, regional and local statistical tests as well.
