TLDR
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed in this paper, where tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed, ranging from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, and the development of jump process formulations.
Abstract
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed. The class of linear systems is concentrated on but the basic concepts, if not the detailed analyses, carry over to other classes of systems. The methods surveyed range from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, to the development of jump process formulations. Tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed.

Sensor Validation using Bayesian Networks

TL;DR: A probabilistic approach, using Bayesian networks, to diagnosis and sensor validation, and investigate several relevant but slightly different Bayesian network queries are taken, showing that onboard inference can be performed on a compiled model, giving fast and predictable execution times.

Model-based condition monitoring for railway vehicle systems

TL;DR: In this article, a model-based approach is proposed as an alternative for railway vehicle condition monitoring and the basic idea behind the approach is presented and the performance of the proposed method is evaluated through simulations and some preliminary results are provided.

Diagnosis of multiple sensor and actuator failures in automotive engines

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a hexadecimal decision table to relate all possible failure patterns to the residual code, which is obtained through simple threshold testing of the residuals, which are the output of a general scheme of residual generators.

Subspace-based fault detection robust to changes in the noise covariances

TL;DR: A new robust residual is proposed and the robustness of its statistics against changes in the noise covariances is shown.

Fault detection and isolation in technical processes with neural networks

TL;DR: A neural network based fault detection and isolation concept for supervision of technical processes is introduced and results from the application of a restricted Coulomb energy neural network (RCE) to the residual evaluation and alternatively to the one-step diagnosis at an industrial actuator benchmark problem are presented.
