TLDR
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed in this paper, where tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed, ranging from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, and the development of jump process formulations.Abstract:
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed. The class of linear systems is concentrated on but the basic concepts, if not the detailed analyses, carry over to other classes of systems. The methods surveyed range from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, to the development of jump process formulations. Tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed.read more

A condition-based failure-prediction and processing-scheme for preventive maintenance
TL;DR: A failure prediction method for PM by state estimation using the Kalman filter is presented, which can achieve early failure detection and isolation for fault diagnosis but also facilitates event count, system state description, and automatic shutdown or regulation.

Robustness in Model-Based Fault Diagnosis: The 1995 Situation
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors give the state-of-the-art in robust fault diagnosis, based principally on residual generation, and some of the key challenges and potential for future directions in the research are drawn up.

Sequential multiple hypothesis testing and efficient fault detection-isolation in stochastic systems
TL;DR: The approach not only generalizes previous work in the literature on asymptotically optimal detection-isolation far beyond the relatively simple models treated but also suggests alternative performance criteria which are more tractable and more appropriate for general stochastic systems.
Technical Notes and Correspondence Adaptive Backstepping Controller Design for Stochastic Jump Systems
TL;DR: In this article, the authors improved the results in a paper by Shi et al., in which problems of stochastic stability and sliding mode control for a class of linear continuous-time systems with Stochastic jumps were con- sidered.

Fuzzy logic and neural network applications to fault diagnosis
TL;DR: A novel observer concept, the so-called knowledge observer, is introduced and an artificial neural network approach for residual generation and evaluation is outlined as well.
