TLDR
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed in this paper, where tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed, ranging from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, and the development of jump process formulations.
Abstract
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed. The class of linear systems is concentrated on but the basic concepts, if not the detailed analyses, carry over to other classes of systems. The methods surveyed range from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, to the development of jump process formulations. Tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed.

Information Flow for Security in Control Systems

TL;DR: In this article, the Kullback Liebler (KL) divergence is proposed as a causal measure of information flow, which quantifies the effect of adversarial inputs on sensor outputs.

Information Criteria for FDI

TL;DR: Using an information point of view, deterministic versus stochastic tools for residual generation and evaluation for FDI in linear state-space systems and new information criteria are proposed for investigating the residual optimization problem.

Fault Detection in Multiply-Redundant Measurement Systems via Sequential Testing

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented the theory and application of a sequential test procedure for fault detection and isolation (FDI) which is suited for development of intelligent instrumentation in strategic processes like aircraft and nuclear plants where redundant measurements are usually available for individual critical variables.

Robust Vision-Aided Navigation in Urban Environments

TL;DR: This paper presents a computationally efficient approach for vision-aided navigation that is robust to multipath errors as well as visual odometry errors caused by biases and odometric drift, and a novel recursive filtering algorithm, the l1-norm filter, that can provide reliable state estimates in the presence of unmodeled nonGaussian measurement and state propagation errors.

Special measurement system for on-line fault diagnosis of induction motors

TL;DR: In this article, a special measurement system suitable for on-line fault diagnosis on dynamic systems is presented, employing an array of processors, interfaced with the process by means of a special data acquisition unit.
