TLDR
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed in this paper, where tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed, ranging from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, and the development of jump process formulations.
Abstract
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed. The class of linear systems is concentrated on but the basic concepts, if not the detailed analyses, carry over to other classes of systems. The methods surveyed range from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, to the development of jump process formulations. Tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed.

Failure Detection in P2P-Grid Environments

TL;DR: A Check pointing-and-Recovery architecture for applications restarting as soon as possible on P2P-Grid systems is proposed and evaluated results show improvement of the performance on the basis of the WP failure detection algorithm.

A new adaptive Kalman estimator integrated in a fault-tolerant control system

TL;DR: In this paper, a Fault-Tolerant Control System (FTCS) is proposed to detect and isolate sequential jumps in discrete-time stochastic linear systems, where the treatment of another possible jump is obtained by a direct state estimate and covariance incrementation of the Kalman filter.

Diffusion approximation for a pseudo-likelihood test process with application to detection of change in a stochastic system

TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide a rigorous mathematical justification for the change detection and model validation procedure proposed by Basseville, Benveniste and Moustakides, and also prove the optmiaiity of this procedure when applied to a model validation problem.

A Hierarchical Model-based Fault Diagnosis System for a Peat Power Plant

TL;DR: A hierarchical, model-based fault diagnosis system for technical processes is presented and the symptom detecting modules are written in algorithmic form and the decision-making part is realized in a knowledge-based system module.
