TLDR
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed in this paper, where tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed, ranging from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, and the development of jump process formulations.
Abstract
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed. The class of linear systems is concentrated on but the basic concepts, if not the detailed analyses, carry over to other classes of systems. The methods surveyed range from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, to the development of jump process formulations. Tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed.

A data-driven approach for predicting failure scenarios in nuclear systems

TL;DR: A data-driven approach is presented for the on-line identification of the system Failure Mode (FM) and the prediction of the available Recovery Time (RT) during a failure scenario, i.e., the time remaining until the system can no longer perform its function in an irreversible manner.

Fault Diagnosis Techniques for Dynamic Systems

Zhou Dong-Hua, +1 more
TL;DR: A novel classiflcation framework is proposed, which divides fault diagnosis approaches into two classes: qual- itative analysis approaches and quantitative analysis approaches, with emphasis on the data-driven approaches.

A structural approach for the design of failure detection and identification systems

TL;DR: The structural canonical decomposition, obtained as a result of a structural study based on graph theory, points out the monitorable part of the system and provides a way to generate residuals and some extensions are possible as direct residual generation by variable elimination or sensor implementation.

A Diagnostic System for Air Brakes in Commercial Vehicles

TL;DR: A model-based diagnostic system based on a nonlinear model for predicting the pressure transients in the brake chamber that correlates the brake Chamber pressure to the treadle valve (brake application valve) plunger displacement and the pressure of the air supplied to the brake system is presented.

Relationships between digital signal processing and control and estimation theory

TL;DR: Topics such as stability theory, linear prediction, and parameter identification, system synthesis and implementation, two-dimensional filtering, decentralized control and estimation, and image processing are examined in order to uncover some of the basic similarities and differences in the goals, techniques, and philosophy of the two disciplines.
