TLDR
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed in this paper, where tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed, ranging from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, and the development of jump process formulations.
Abstract
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed. The class of linear systems is concentrated on but the basic concepts, if not the detailed analyses, carry over to other classes of systems. The methods surveyed range from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, to the development of jump process formulations. Tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed.

Gossip average consensus in a Byzantine environment using stochastic Set-Valued Observers

TL;DR: The use of Set-Valued Observers to detect if the state observations are compatible with the system dynamics is proposed and the method is extended to the stochastic case by introducing a strategy to construct a set that is guaranteed to contain all possible states with, at least, a pre-specified desired probability.

Tuning Windowed Chi-Squared Detectors for Sensor Attacks

TL;DR: A model-based windowed chi-squared procedure is proposed for identifying falsified sensor measurements and the advantage of using dynamic detectors, which leverage the history of the state, over a static detectors which uses a single measurement at a time is quantified.

Generalized pseudo-Bayes estimation and detection for abruptly changing systems

TL;DR: A feature of the present GPBA is that it noticeably decreases the size of the required memory when the number of states in the Markov chain is large, and the cost to be paid is a slight increase in the computing time.

Detecting anomalies to improve classification performance in opportunistic sensor networks

TL;DR: A novel approach to detect the faulty or degraded sensors in a multi-sensory environment and a way to compensate it and the results show that using the method improves the classification accuracy.

Hopfield/ART-1 Neural Networks based Fault Detection and Isolation

TL;DR: A new approach to detect and isolate faults in linear dynamic systems is proposed, which is implemented to detect faults in a position servo system using an ART-1 based network.
