TLDR
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed in this paper, where tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed, ranging from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, and the development of jump process formulations.
Abstract
A number of methods for detecting abrupt changes (such as failures) in stochastic dynamical systems are surveyed. The class of linear systems is concentrated on but the basic concepts, if not the detailed analyses, carry over to other classes of systems. The methods surveyed range from the design of specific failure-sensitive filters, to the use of statistical tests on filter innovations, to the development of jump process formulations. Tradeoffs in complexity versus performance are discussed.

An algorithm for fault detection in stochastic non-linear state-space models using particle filters

TL;DR: In this article, a model-based algorithm for fault detection in nonlinear and non-Gaussian systems is proposed, which utilizes particle filters to generate a sequence of hidden states, which are then used in a log-likelihood ratio test to detect faults.

A fuzzy fault diagnosis scheme with application

TL;DR: A new fuzzy logic diagnosis strategy is developed where the emphasis is placed upon knowledge expression and approximate reasoning, and the computer simulation results show that location of the malfunction is deduced by full use of the relations between faults and symptoms.

Detection of collisions for a flexible beam subject to random disturbance

TL;DR: In this paper, a collision detection filter is constructed based on the Kalman filter with respect to the finite-dimensional model corresponding to the mathematical model of the flexible beam, and a chi-squared like test is introduced to detect such statistical change of the residual signal due to the collision.

Robust approximate likelihood ratio tests for nonlinear dynamic systems

TL;DR: In this paper, an approximate likelihood ratio test (LRT) is proposed that consists of bank of an extended Kalman filters (EKFs) each tuned to one of the candidate signal models.

Fault detection and isolation for linear time-invariant systems

TL;DR: In this article, the problem of detecting and isolating faults by an observer is addressed, and the authors provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of such filters, and provide a method to design a fault isolation filter.
