Antioxidant activities of flavonol derivatives from the leaves and stem bark of Scutia buxifolia Reiss

TLDR
Results obtained indicated that S. buxifolia has a great potential to prevent disease caused by the overproduction of free radicals and also it might be used as a potential source of natural antioxidant agents.

Grape seed and clove bud extracts as natural antioxidants in silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) fillets during chilled storage: Effect on lipid and protein oxidation

TL;DR: In this paper, the utilization of clove bud extract (CBE) and grape seed extract (GSE) as natural antioxidants for retarding lipid and protein oxidation in silver carp fillets stored at 4-±-1-°C was investigated.

Chemical analysis and antioxidant activities in vitro of polysaccharide extracted from Opuntia ficus indica Mill. cultivated in China

TL;DR: The crude water-soluble polysaccharide and purified poly Saccharide showed notable free radical scavenging activity and hydroxyl radical-induced liver lipid peroxidation inhibiting ability, suggesting that O. ficus indica polysacchide may be considered as a potential candidate for the natural antioxidants and possible health-promoting functional foods.

In vitro antioxidant activities of sulfated polysaccharide fractions extracted from Corallina officinalis.

TL;DR: In this article, sulfated polysaccharides (F1, F2) from seaweed Corallina officinalis were isolated through anion-exchange column chromatography, and their chemical characteristics were determined by GC, HPLC, FT-IR and UV spectra.

Chemical composition, antioxidant and anticholinesterase activity of Melissa officinalis

TL;DR: Ethyl acetate fraction presented the highest flavonoids content as well as the antioxidant activities when compared with other tested fractions, and should be further investigated for its possible use in the treatment of oxidative stress related diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease.

Assay for lipid peroxides in animal tissues by thiobarbituric acid reaction

TL;DR: Using this method, the liped peroxide level in the liver of rats suffering from carbon tetrachloride intoxication was investigated and was in good agreement with previously reported data obtained by measuring diene content.

Structure-antioxidant activity relationships of flavonoids and phenolic acids

TL;DR: The factors underlying the influence of the different classes of polyphenols in enhancing their resistance to oxidation are discussed and support the contention that the partition coefficients of the flavonoids as well as their rates of reaction with the relevant radicals define the antioxidant activities in the lipophilic phase.

Flavonoids: antioxidants or signalling molecules?

TL;DR: A clear understanding of the mechanisms of action of flavonoids, either as antioxidants or modulators of cell signalling, and the influence of their metabolism on these properties are key to the evaluation of these potent biomolecules as anticancer agents, cardioprotectants, and inhibitors of neurodegeneration.

Dietary flavonoids : Intake, health effects and bioavailability

TL;DR: It is found that human absorption of the quercetin glycosides from onions (52%) is far better than that of the pure aglycone (24%) and might contribute to the antioxidant defences of blood.
