A Definition of the Degree of Ionization of a Micelle Based on Its Aggregation Number

TL;DR: In this article, the authors define the degree of ionization of a micelle or the apparent degree of counterion dissociation, α, by asserting that the aggregation number, N, is dependent only on the concentration, Caq, of counterions in the aqueous pseudophase.

ROSAT and ASCA observations of X-ray luminous starburst galaxies: NGC 3310 and 3690

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present the combined 0.1-10 keV spectrum of NGC 3690 and NGC 3310 with a Raymond-Smith plasma with temperature kT = 0.09−0.12 keV and a hard power law, Γ = 1.44− 0.20−0, while there is no substantial excess absorption above the Galactic column value.

Cell poking. Determination of the elastic area compressibility modulus of the erythrocyte membrane.

TL;DR: Cell poking, a new method for measuring mechanical properties of single cells was used to determine the elastic area compressibility modulus of osmotically swollen human erythrocytes and results agree reasonably with those obtained by Evans et al. using micropipette aspiration.

Roles of the membrane-interactive regions of factor VIIa and tissue factor: The factor VIIa Gla domain is dispensable for binding to tissue factor but important for activation of factor X

TL;DR: The results demonstrate that the effect of the Gla domain on the Kd is apparent only in the presence of PS, and that interactions involving the fVIIa Gladomain and phospholipid are critical for efficient proteolysis of factor X on a membrane surface.

PEG-based hydrogel membrane coatings

TL;DR: In this article, a series of copolymer hydrogel networks were synthesized using poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) as the crosslinker and acrylic acid (AA), 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate(HEA), or poly(chemical glycol)-acrylated (PEGA) as comonomers.
