Composition and structure of the Martian surface at high southern latitudes from neutron spectroscopy
Thomas H. Prettyman,W. C. Feldman,Michael T. Mellon,G. W. McKinney,William V. Boynton,Suniti Karunatillake,David J. Lawrence,Sylvestre Maurice,Albert E. Metzger,James R. Murphy,S. W. Squyres,R. D. Starr,R. L. Tokar +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the abundance and depth of near-surface water ice as a function of latitude in the southern hemisphere as well as the inventory of CO2 in the south polar residual cap were determined from zonally averaged neutron counting data.

Aerosol Retrievals from Individual AVHRR Channels. Part I: Retrieval Algorithm and Transition from Dave to 6S Radiative Transfer Model
Alexander Ignatov,Larry L. Stowe +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a second-generation aerosol retrieval algorithm over oceans used at NOAA/National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) separately retrieves two values of aerosol optical depth, τ1 and τ2, from Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) channels 1 and 2 centered at 0.63 and 0.83 μm, respectively.

Errors associated with fitting Gaussian profiles to noisy emission-line spectra
Dawn D. Lenz,Thomas R. Ayres +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed prescriptions to predict profile fitting errors for Gaussian emission lines perturbed by white noise, which can be generalized to more complicated signal-dependent noise models of common astronomical detector systems.

Estimating random errors due to shot noise in backscatter lidar observations
Zhaoyan Liu,William H. Hunt,Mark A. Vaughan,Chris A. Hostetler,Matthew J. McGill,Kathy Powell,David M. Winker,Yongxiang Hu +7 more
TL;DR: Using the noise scale factor to estimate random errors in lidar measurements due to shot noise provides a significant advantage over the conventional error estimation techniques, in that with the NSF, uncertainties can be reliably calculated from or for a single data sample.

Solution Thermodynamics and Preferential Solvation of Meloxicam in Propylene Glycol + Water Mixtures
TL;DR: In this paper, the Gibbs energy, enthalpy, and entropy of solution and of mixing were obtained from these solubility data, and the preferential solvation of MEL by the components of the solvent was estimated by means of the inverse Kirkwood-Buff integral method.
