Enzyme Engineering for Oligosaccharide Biosynthesis

TL;DR: This chapter provides an overview about the facts and potentials of oligosaccharide production methodologies, making special emphasis on the enzymatic-based technology, which shows clear advantages over chemical methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chitooligomers inhibit UV-A-induced photoaging of skin by regulating TGF-β/Smad signaling cascade

TL;DR: It is suggested that chitooligomers can be developed as topical application of natural anti-aging cosmeceuticals since reduced the skin collagen decomposition by enhancement of collagen synthesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chitosan encapsulation of essential oil "cocktails" with well-defined binary Zn(II)-Schiff base species targeting antibacterial medicinal nanotechnology.

TL;DR: The collective physicochemical profile of the hybrid Zn(II)-essential oil cocktails, formulated so as to achieve optimal activity when loaded to chitosan nanoparticles, signifies the importance of design in the development of efficient nanomedicinal pharmaceuticals targeting bacterial infections and drug resistance.

Effects of chitosan oligosaccharides addition to Japanese quail's diets on growth, carcass traits, liver and intestinal histology, and intestinal microflora.

TL;DR: In conclusion, the addition of 75 mg/ kg of COS had no adverse effect on the tested parameters, and it increased the crypt depth, villus length, and beneficially on intestinal microflora.

Antibacterial action of chitosan

TL;DR: Fungal chitosan had significantly less antibiotic effect than CH and CL, and was shown to be concentration dependent with 0.1 mg/mL more effective than 2.0 and 5.0 mg/ mL.

Chitin in nature and technology

TL;DR: Chitin has been a landmark for polysaccharides and modified chitins, besides chitin itself, to the point that three International Conferences on Chitin / Chitosan were convened (Boston, U.S. A. 1977, Sapporo, Japan 1982 and Senigallia, Italy 1985).

Antimicrobial effect of chitooligosaccharides produced by bioreactor

TL;DR: In this paper, the antibacterial effect of three kinds of chitooligosaccharides with relatively higher molecular weights (HMWCOS), medium molecular weight (MMWCOS), and lower molecular weight, respectively, was evaluated against various microorganisms.
