Understanding the metabolism of urban-rural ecosystems
R. Villarroel Walker,M. B. Beck +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a multi-sectoral system analysis (MSA) methodology is presented as a tool for identifying the level of importance of flows of energy and materials (water, nitrogen, phosphorus, and carbon) as they pass through an anthropogenically manipulated system.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vitamin requirements: is there basis for re-evaluating dietary specifications?
TL;DR: Expectations of ever increasing performance dictate the need for continual reevaluation in determining vitamin levels within diet formulations as detailed in recent publications on optimum vitamin nutrition of poultry to improve health, welfare, performance and the quality of poultry products.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of selenium sources on the expression of cellular glutathione peroxidase and cytoplasmic thioredoxin reductase in the liver and kidney of broiler breeders and their offspring
TL;DR: Investigation of the effect of different sources of selenium (Se) on the expression of cellular glutathione peroxidase (GPx1) and cytoplasmic thioredoxin reductase (TrxR1) in the liver and kidney of broiler breeders and their offspring by quantitative real-time PCR showed that, compared with sodium selenite, SY or SM significantly increased the activity of TrxR2 but not the GPx1.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of caprylic acid and Yucca schidigera extract on production performance, egg quality, blood characteristics, and excreta microflora in laying hens
TL;DR: Positive effects on egg weight and feed efficiency, decreased the serum and yolk cholesterol concentration and reduced the proliferation of Escherichia coli are exerted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dexamethasone triggers lameness associated with necrosis of the proximal tibial head and proximal femoral head in broilers
Robert F. Wideman,I. Pevzner +1 more
TL;DR: A subset of the lesions triggered by repeated DEX injections did not precisely mimic the pathogenesis of BCO in broilers, and DEX consistently inhibited growth whereas BCO is associated with rapid growth.
