Journal ArticleDOI
Short‐term fish and amphibian embryo‐larval tests for determining the effects of toxicant stress on early life stages and estimating chronic values for single compounds and complex effluents: Complex mixtures
TL;DR: The short-term embryo-larval test was decidedly more sensitive and reliable for characterizing the toxicity of complex effluents, compared with 96-h flow-through acute tests with the fathead minnow.
Journal ArticleDOI
Physiological effect of chitinase purified from Bacillus subtilis against the tobacco cutworm Spodoptera litura Fab.
Rajamanickam Chandrasekaran,Kannan Revathi,Selvamathiazhagan Nisha,Suyambulingam Arunachalam Kirubakaran,Subbiah Sathish-Narayanan,Sengottayan Senthil-Nathan +5 more
TL;DR: An extracellular chitinase was purified from Bacillus subtilis and showed the highest insecticidal activity at 6 μM concentration within 48 h, and the nutritional indices were also significantly affected by the P Bt toxin.
Journal ArticleDOI
A study of glycogen and lactate in the myotomal muscles and liver of the Coalfish (Gadus virens L.) during sustained swimming
I. A. Johnston,G. Goldspink +1 more
TL;DR: Biochemical measurements made on the concentration of glycogen and lactate in the red muscle and white muscle at a series of known swimming speeds showed that red muscle alone is used at speeds below 2 bodylengtbs/s, and at speeds in excess of 2 bodylengths/s a statistically significant increase in lactate concentration occurred in the white muscle fibres.
Journal ArticleDOI
Integrative Cloning, Expression, and Stability of the cryIA(c) Gene from Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki in a Recombinant Strain of Clavibacter xyli subsp. cynodontis.
J S Lampel,Gayle L. Canter,Michael B. Dimock,Jeffrey L. Kelly,James J. Anderson,Brenda B. Uratani,James S. Foulke,John T. Turner +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a bacterial endophyte was engineered for insecticidal activity against the European corn borer by using an integrative plasmid vector, and the integration vectors pCG740 and pCG741 included the replicon pGEM5Zf(+), which is maintained in Escherichia coli but not in C. cynodontis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of amitraz resistance and reduced treatment efficacy in the Varroa Mite, Varroa destructor, within commercial beekeeping operations.
TL;DR: Amitraz remains an effective Varroa control product in many operations, however, apiaries across operations displayed a wide range of amitraz resistance from no resistance to high resistance that resulted in VarroA control failure, suggesting resistance monitoring protocols need to be developed.
