Journal ArticleDOI
Low spatial frequencies are suppressively masked across spatial scale, orientation, field position, and eye of origin.
Timothy S. Meese,Robert F. Hess +1 more
TL;DR: The results confirm that above detection threshold, cross-channel masking involves contrast suppression and not (purely) mask-induced noise, and conclude that cross-Channel masking can be a powerful phenomenon, particularly at low test spatial frequencies and when mask and test are presented to different eyes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Costs of chronic waterborne zinc exposure and the consequences of zinc acclimation on the gill/zinc interactions of rainbow trout in hard and soft water
TL;DR: Juvenile rainbow trout were exposed to zinc in both moderately hard water and soft water for 30 d, with no effect on whole body Ca{sup 2+} or Na{sup +} levels, on resting or routine metabolic rates, or on fixed velocity sprint performance, however, critical swimming speed was significantly reduced in zinc-exposed fish, an effect that persisted in bronze water.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deltamethrin resistance in the codling moth (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae): inheritance and number of genes involved
Jean-Charles Bouvier,Robert Bues,Thomas Boivin,Liliane Boudinhon,Dominique Beslay,Benoît Sauphanor +5 more
TL;DR: The resistance in codling moth populations in south-eastern France is considered as a product of an adaptive sequential selection process, occurring through the sequential addition of resistance genes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molluscicidal Saponins from Sapindus mukorossi, Inhibitory Agents of Golden Apple Snails, Pomacea canaliculata
TL;DR: Bioassay-directed fractionation of S. mukorossi resulted in the isolation of one new hederagenin-based acetylated saponin, causing 70-100% mortality at 10 ppm against the golden apple snail.
Journal ArticleDOI
Insecticidal properties of Thymus persicus essential oil against Tribolium castaneum and Sitophilus oryzae
TL;DR: Results suggest that T. persicus essential oil merits further study as potential fumigant for the management of these stored-product insects.
