TLDR
The most recent advances in biosensing with whisperinggallery modes (WGMs) are described in this paper, where the basic concepts of WGM resonators, the integration of gain media into various active WGM sensors and devices, and the cutting-edge advances in photonic devices for micro-and nanoprobing of biological samples that can be integrated with WGM lasers.

Ultraviolet graphene ultranarrow absorption engineered by lattice plasmon resonance.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors numerically demonstrate an ultraviolet graphene ultranarrow absorption in a hybrid graphene-metal structure, where the full width at half maximum of the absorption band being 9 nm in ultraviolet range is achieved based on the coupling of lattice plasmon resonances of the metallic nanostructure to optical dissipation of graphene.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biophotonic probes for bio-detection and imaging.

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of advances in biophotonic probes for bio-detection and imaging is presented, which emphatically and systematically describes biological entities-based photonic probes that offer appropriate optical properties, biocompatibility, and biodegradability with different optical functions from light generation, to light transportation and light modulation.

Single-molecule optofluidic microsensor with interface whispering gallery modes

TL;DR: In this article , an ultrasound-sensitive optofluidic biosensor with interface whispering gallery modes in a microbubble cavity is presented, which can achieve a detection limit as low as 0.3 pg/cm2.
Journal ArticleDOI

Operando monitoring transition dynamics of responsive polymer using optofluidic microcavities.

TL;DR: In this article, a self-referencing optofluidic microcavity is used to precisely decouple the refractive index and temperature information of the analyte during the phase-transition process.

The Quantum Theory of Optical Coherence

TL;DR: In this paper, a succession of correlation functions for the complex field strengths is defined, and a fully coherent field is defined as one whose correlation functions satisfy an infinite succession of stated conditions.

Zero-Mode Waveguides for Single-Molecule Analysis at High Concentrations

TL;DR: It is shown that arrays of zero-mode waveguides consisting of subwavelength holes in a metal film provide a simple and highly parallel means for studying single-molecule dynamics at micromolar concentrations with microsecond temporal resolution.

Multiphoton microscopy in life sciences

TL;DR: Owing to the high NIR penetration depth, non‐invasive optical biopsies can be obtained from patients and ex vivo tissue by morphological and functional fluorescence imaging of endogenous fluorophores such as NAD(P)H, flavin, lipofuscin, porphyrins, collagen and elastin.
