TLDR
In this paper, a total deformation theory of plasticity, in conjunction with two hardening stress-strain relations, is used to determine the dominant singularity at the tip of a crack in a tension field.
Abstract
D istributions of stress occurring at the tip of a crack in a tension field are presented for both plane stress and plane strain. A total deformation theory of plasticity, in conjunction with two hardening stress-strain relations, is used. For applied stress sufficiently low such that the plastic zone is very small relative to the crack length, the dominant singularity can be completely determined with the aid of a path-independent line integral recently given by rice (1967). The amplitude of the tensile stress singularity ahead of the crack is found to be larger in plane strain than in plane stress.

The effects of heterogeneity and anisotropy on the size effect in cracked polycrystalline films

TL;DR: In this paper, a model for quantifying the size effect due to heterogeneity and anisotropy in polycrystalline films was developed for estimating the average and standard deviation of the microscopic (local) stress intensity factors and energy release rate of a crack in a columnar aggregate of randomly orientated, perfectly bonded, orthotropic crystals (grains) under plane deformation.

Méthode éléments finis étendus en espace et en temps : application à la propagation dynamique des fissures

TL;DR: In this article, a methode des elements finis etendus is proposed for simuler numeriquement the propagation dynamique des fissures, which permet de rendre de compte de the presence d'une discontinuite grâce a des fonctions d'interpolation enrichies.

Does the cyclic J-integral ΔJ describe the crack-tip opening displacement in the presence of crack closure?

TL;DR: In this article, the correlation of the cyclic J-integral, Δ J, and cyclic crack-tip opening displacement, Δ CTOD, is studied in the presence of crack closure to assess the question if Δ J describes the crack- tip opening displacement in this case.

The influence of debonding damage on fracture toughness and crack-tip field in glass-particle-reinforced Nylon 66 composites

TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of debonding damage between particles and matrix on fracture toughness and crack-tip field of particle-reinforced composites was examined on seven kinds of glass-particle reinforced Nylon 66 composites in which the volume fraction of glass particles and the interface treatment between particle and matrix were changed.

Distribution of deformation around a fault in a non‐linear ductile medium

TL;DR: In this article, the deformation field surrounding a fault in a nonlinear ductile medium is characterized by two components: a singularity in the stress field at the fault tip and a non-singular component which is required to satisfy arbitrary stress or velocity boundary conditions on the external boundary.

Rodney Hill
TL;DR: In this paper, the solution of two-dimensional non-steady motion problems in two dimensions is studied. But the solution is not a solution to the problem in three dimensions.

Contained plastic deformation near cracks and notches under longitudinal shear

TL;DR: In this paper, an exact linear elastic-perfectly plastic solution for the problem of sharp notch (or, when the notch angle is zero, a crack) in a plane of finite width subjected to anti-plane stresses inducing a stress and deformation state of longitudinal shear is presented.
