TLDR
In this paper, a total deformation theory of plasticity, in conjunction with two hardening stress-strain relations, is used to determine the dominant singularity at the tip of a crack in a tension field.Abstract:
D istributions of stress occurring at the tip of a crack in a tension field are presented for both plane stress and plane strain. A total deformation theory of plasticity, in conjunction with two hardening stress-strain relations, is used. For applied stress sufficiently low such that the plastic zone is very small relative to the crack length, the dominant singularity can be completely determined with the aid of a path-independent line integral recently given by rice (1967). The amplitude of the tensile stress singularity ahead of the crack is found to be larger in plane strain than in plane stress.read more

Fracture response of pipelines subjected to large plastic deformation under tension
TL;DR: In this paper, a line-pipe segment with an external circumferential surface crack is investigated under pure tensile loading as well as tension with internal pressure, and the effects of crack depth, crack length, radius-to-thickness ratio and material hardening on fracture response are examined.

Stress intensity factor gauging by digital image correlation: application in cyclic fatigue
TL;DR: In this paper, a fatigue crack in steel (CCT geometry) was studied via digital image correlation and the measurement of the stress intensity factor (SIF) change during one cycle was performed using a decomposition of the displacement field onto a tailored set of elastic fields.

Effects of crack tip stress states and hydride-matrix interaction stresses on delayed hydride cracking
TL;DR: In this article, a model of slow crack propagation based on the delayed hydride cracking (DHC) mechanism was examined and evaluated to take account of recent experimental and theoretical advances in the understanding of hydrides fracture and terminal solid solubility (TSS).

Mechanisms of toughening in rubber toughened polymers
TL;DR: In this paper, a method is presented whereby various potential contributions to the toughness of rubber toughened polymers can be quantified, and the tendencies toward either synergism or additivity amongst mechanisms are emphasised for rubber stretching, cavitation and shear banding.

Contained plastic deformation near cracks and notches under longitudinal shear
TL;DR: In this paper, an exact linear elastic-perfectly plastic solution for the problem of sharp notch (or, when the notch angle is zero, a crack) in a plane of finite width subjected to anti-plane stresses inducing a stress and deformation state of longitudinal shear is presented.
