TLDR
In this paper, a total deformation theory of plasticity, in conjunction with two hardening stress-strain relations, is used to determine the dominant singularity at the tip of a crack in a tension field.
Abstract
D istributions of stress occurring at the tip of a crack in a tension field are presented for both plane stress and plane strain. A total deformation theory of plasticity, in conjunction with two hardening stress-strain relations, is used. For applied stress sufficiently low such that the plastic zone is very small relative to the crack length, the dominant singularity can be completely determined with the aid of a path-independent line integral recently given by rice (1967). The amplitude of the tensile stress singularity ahead of the crack is found to be larger in plane strain than in plane stress.

Computational fracture mechanics

TL;DR: In this article, a finite element solution to the large-scale yielding of a circumferentially cracked round tension bar is obtained, and the three-dimensional aspects of flawed structures and numerical methods of treating them are studied.

Calculation of inelastic notch-tip strain-stress histories under cyclic loading

TL;DR: In this paper, an application of the equivalent strain energy density method for calculation of elastic-plastic notch-tip strain under cyclic loading is presented. But the energy density was not applied to the case of the plastic yielding around the notch tip.

Continuing crack-tip deformation and fracture for plane-strain crack growth in elastic-plastic solids

TL;DR: In this article, the deformation field consistent with a Prandtl stress distribution travelling with an advancing plane-strain crack is analyzed and the functional form of the near tip crack profile in an elastic-plastic solid.

Higher order asymptotic crack tip fields in a power-law hardening material

TL;DR: In this article, the asymptotic stress and deformation fields for a crack tip embedded in a power-law elastic-plastic material are developed for a plane problems, and the most singular term in the series solution is the HRR solution, after Hutchinson and Rice and Rosengren.

Requirements for a one parameter characterization of crack tip fields by the HRR singularity

TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared the crack tip stress and strain fields for the edge crack bar subjected to bending and the center cracked panel and single cracked panel subjected to tensile loads at the same level of applied J-integral or crack tip opening displacement.

Contained plastic deformation near cracks and notches under longitudinal shear

TL;DR: In this paper, an exact linear elastic-perfectly plastic solution for the problem of sharp notch (or, when the notch angle is zero, a crack) in a plane of finite width subjected to anti-plane stresses inducing a stress and deformation state of longitudinal shear is presented.
