TLDR
In this paper, a total deformation theory of plasticity, in conjunction with two hardening stress-strain relations, is used to determine the dominant singularity at the tip of a crack in a tension field.Abstract:
D istributions of stress occurring at the tip of a crack in a tension field are presented for both plane stress and plane strain. A total deformation theory of plasticity, in conjunction with two hardening stress-strain relations, is used. For applied stress sufficiently low such that the plastic zone is very small relative to the crack length, the dominant singularity can be completely determined with the aid of a path-independent line integral recently given by rice (1967). The amplitude of the tensile stress singularity ahead of the crack is found to be larger in plane strain than in plane stress.read more

TL;DR: In this paper, a coupled Moire-finite element method is used to calculate displacement and strain fields around a elasto-plastically deformed crack tip, which is shown to be economical when compared with conventional iterative finite element procedures from the point of view of computational time and storage.

Prediction of the initiation of ductile fracture
TL;DR: In this paper, the initiation of a ductile tear at a sharp notch is modelled by the growth of an isolated void embedded in a J -Q stress field, and the model gives the predicted value of J at the initiation, for any geometry and size, in terms of its value for a standard test specimen.

Some inherently unreliable practices in present day fracture mechanics
TL;DR: In this article, a number of current practices in fracture mechanics which use quantities near a crack tip to make conclusions about response at the crack tip itself are examined, including: stress and displacement matching to estimate stress intensity factors, monitoring local stress and strain values to predict fracture, and both crack opening angle and crack opening displacement as fracture criteria.

Contained plastic deformation near cracks and notches under longitudinal shear
TL;DR: In this paper, an exact linear elastic-perfectly plastic solution for the problem of sharp notch (or, when the notch angle is zero, a crack) in a plane of finite width subjected to anti-plane stresses inducing a stress and deformation state of longitudinal shear is presented.
