Singular behaviour at the end of a tensile crack in a hardening material

TLDR
In this paper, a total deformation theory of plasticity, in conjunction with two hardening stress-strain relations, is used to determine the dominant singularity at the tip of a crack in a tension field.
Abstract
D istributions of stress occurring at the tip of a crack in a tension field are presented for both plane stress and plane strain. A total deformation theory of plasticity, in conjunction with two hardening stress-strain relations, is used. For applied stress sufficiently low such that the plastic zone is very small relative to the crack length, the dominant singularity can be completely determined with the aid of a path-independent line integral recently given by rice (1967). The amplitude of the tensile stress singularity ahead of the crack is found to be larger in plane strain than in plane stress.

Constraint effect on the near tip stress fields due to difference in plastic work hardening for bi-material interface cracks in small scale yielding

TL;DR: In this article, the change in near-tip stress field in Small Scale Yielding (SSY) for cracks located at an interface between two materials with different plastic work hardening is investigated.

On the fatigue propagation of multiple cracks in friction stir weldments using linear and non-linear models under cyclic tensile loading

TL;DR: In this paper, the propagation life of a friction stir-welded sample made of ductile materials is estimated by employing linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) and small-scale yielding (SSY) conditions.

Molecular dynamics studies of entangled polymer chains

Monica Bulacu
TL;DR: In this paper, a coarse-grained model is used for representing the polymer chains as strings of beads connected by finite-extensible springs, and the chain movement is influenced significantly by chain length N, temperature T and chain stiffness.

Estimate of conservativity of elastic approach to elastic–plastic crack problems using two-parameter J–A fracture criterion

TL;DR: In this paper, a conservativity factor of elastic prediction is introduced, which allows quantitative estimate of conservativity of elastic solution as compared to the elastic-plastic structural integrity analysis.

Contained plastic deformation near cracks and notches under longitudinal shear

TL;DR: In this paper, an exact linear elastic-perfectly plastic solution for the problem of sharp notch (or, when the notch angle is zero, a crack) in a plane of finite width subjected to anti-plane stresses inducing a stress and deformation state of longitudinal shear is presented.
