TLDR
In this paper, a total deformation theory of plasticity, in conjunction with two hardening stress-strain relations, is used to determine the dominant singularity at the tip of a crack in a tension field.Abstract:
D istributions of stress occurring at the tip of a crack in a tension field are presented for both plane stress and plane strain. A total deformation theory of plasticity, in conjunction with two hardening stress-strain relations, is used. For applied stress sufficiently low such that the plastic zone is very small relative to the crack length, the dominant singularity can be completely determined with the aid of a path-independent line integral recently given by rice (1967). The amplitude of the tensile stress singularity ahead of the crack is found to be larger in plane strain than in plane stress.read more

TL;DR: In this paper, the Dugdale crack model is generalized to the case of plane strain and the governing equations are set up to determine the stresses in the plastic zone, and numerical results from specific problems are analyzed and compared with those for plane stress state and other cases.

Effects of yield surface shape and round-off vertex on crack-tip fields for pressure-sensitive materials
W.J. Chang,Jwo Pan +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a modified Drucker-Prager yield criterion was proposed to obtain asymptotic crack-tip fields for both power-law hardening and perfectly-plastic pressuresensitive materials under plane strain conditions, where the vertex is rounded off and replaced by a curved yield surface which is based on a quadratic function of the effective stress and the mean stress.

Contained plastic deformation near cracks and notches under longitudinal shear
TL;DR: In this paper, an exact linear elastic-perfectly plastic solution for the problem of sharp notch (or, when the notch angle is zero, a crack) in a plane of finite width subjected to anti-plane stresses inducing a stress and deformation state of longitudinal shear is presented.
