TLDR
In this paper, a total deformation theory of plasticity, in conjunction with two hardening stress-strain relations, is used to determine the dominant singularity at the tip of a crack in a tension field.
Abstract
D istributions of stress occurring at the tip of a crack in a tension field are presented for both plane stress and plane strain. A total deformation theory of plasticity, in conjunction with two hardening stress-strain relations, is used. For applied stress sufficiently low such that the plastic zone is very small relative to the crack length, the dominant singularity can be completely determined with the aid of a path-independent line integral recently given by rice (1967). The amplitude of the tensile stress singularity ahead of the crack is found to be larger in plane strain than in plane stress.

Nonlinear effects in mixed-mode interfacial delaminations

TL;DR: In this paper, the initiation of coplanar, interfacial cracks is considered with a view to examining mixed-mode fracture parameters and criteria, and a complementary finite element analysis is used to determine tangential crack opening displacements and other linear elastic mixedmode fracture parameter, all of which were found to increase with relative increases in mode II component.

Role of mechanics in corrosion fatigue

TL;DR: The role of mechanics in corrosion fatigue is examined briefly in both crack initiation and propagation phases in this article, where it is shown that mechanics provides bounds to behaviour within which a wide variety of corrosion-induced effects can occur.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the variation in fracture toughness of the Pd-based metallic glass Pd77.5Cu6Si16.5, using single-edge notched bend specimens but in two different sizes.

An effective fracture analysis method based on the virtual crack closure-integral technique implemented in CS-FEM

TL;DR: In this paper, the virtual crack closure integral technique (VCCT) is formulated in the framework of cell-based smoothed finite element (CS-FEM) for evaluating stress intensity factors and for modeling the crack propagation in solids.

The influence of weld strength mismatch on crack-tip constraint in single edge notch bend specimens

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors quantify finite size and crack depth effects on cleavage fracture toughness when failure occurs at deformation levels where the state of stresses and strains in the vicinity of the crack tip is no longer uniquely described.

Contained plastic deformation near cracks and notches under longitudinal shear

TL;DR: In this paper, an exact linear elastic-perfectly plastic solution for the problem of sharp notch (or, when the notch angle is zero, a crack) in a plane of finite width subjected to anti-plane stresses inducing a stress and deformation state of longitudinal shear is presented.
