Half a degree and rapid socioeconomic development matter for heatwave risk.
Simone Russo,Jana Sillmann,Sebastian Sippel,Monika J. Barcikowska,Claudia Ghisetti,Marek Smid,Brian C. O'Neill +6 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that at the 1.5 °C warming level, heatwave exposure in 2075 estimated for the population living in low development countries is expected to be greater than exposure at the warming level of 2C, and the projected difference in heatwave Exposure and the illustrative risk index for the low and very high development countries will be significantly reduced.

A factorial snowpack model (FSM 1.0)
TL;DR: In this paper, an open-source snowpack model with two levels of representation for each of the five processes mentioned above, allowing factorial experimental designs with 32 different model configurations, is demonstrated using driving and evaluation data recorded over one winter at an alpine site.

Plant water potential improves prediction of empirical stomatal models
William R. L. Anderegg,Adam Wolf,Adriana Arango-Velez,Brendan Choat,Daniel J. Chmura,Steven Jansen,Thomas Kolb,Shan Li,Frederick C. Meinzer,Pilar Pita,Víctor Resco de Dios,John S. Sperry,Brett T. Wolfe,Stephen W. Pacala +13 more
TL;DR: It is revealed that including stomatal sensitivity to declining water potential and consequent impairment of plant water transport will improve predictions during drought conditions and show that many biomes contain a diversity of plant stamatal strategies that range from risky to conservativeStomatal regulation during water stress.
