Tenofovir-associated kidney toxicity in HIV-infected patients: a review of the evidence.

TLDR
The nature and extent of TDF-associated kidneyoxicity in the HIV-infected population, potential underlying mechanisms of toxicity in the proximal tubule, and risk factors for developing tubular dysfunction are discussed and suggested strategies to monitor patients on TDF therapy are suggested.

Association of tenofovir exposure with kidney disease risk in HIV infection.

TL;DR: Tenofovir exposure was independently associated with increased risk for three types of kidney disease events, and did not appear to be reversible.

Is HIV a Model of Accelerated or Accentuated Aging

TL;DR: The evidence that age-related clinical syndromes are exacerbated by HIV is outlined, the ways in which HIV is similar, and dissimilar from natural aging are examined, and the validity of HIV as a model of premature aging is assessed.

Efficacy and safety of tenofovir DF vs stavudine in combination therapy in antiretroviral-naive patients: a 3-year randomized trial.

TL;DR: Through 144 weeks, the combination of tenofovir DF, lamivudine, and efavirenz was highly effective and comparable with stavudine for antiretroviral-naive patients and appeared to be associated with better lipid profiles and less lipodystrophy.

Use of nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors and risk of myocardial infarction in HIV-infected patients enrolled in the D:A:D study: a multi-cohort collaboration

TL;DR: There exists an increased risk of myocardial infarction in patients exposed to abacavir and didanosine within the preceding 6 months and the excess risk does not seem to be explained by underlying established cardiovascular risk factors and was not present beyond 6 months after drug cessation.

Tenofovir DF, Emtricitabine, and Efavirenz vs. Zidovudine, Lamivudine, and Efavirenz for HIV

TL;DR: The combination of tenofovir DF and emtricitabineplus efavirenz fulfilled the criteria for noninferiority to a fixed dose of zidovudine and lamivudine plus efvirenz and proved superior in terms of virologic suppression, CD4 response, and adverse events resulting in discontinuation of the study drugs.
