Diffuse radio emission from clusters in the MareNostrum Universe simulation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors estimate the radio emission of structure formation shocks as follows: introducing a novel approach to identify strong shock fronts in an smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) simulation, they determine the Mach number as well as the downstream density and temperature in the MareNostrum Universe simulation which has 2 x 1024 3 particles in a 500 h -1 Mpc box.

Shock acceleration of solar energetic protons : the first 10 minutes

TL;DR: Proton acceleration at a parallel coronal shock is modeled with self-consistent Alfven wave excitation and shock transmission in this paper, where 18 - 50 keV seed protons at 0.1% of plasma proton density are accelerated in 10 minutes to a power-law intensity spectrum rolling over at 300 MeV by a 2500km s-1 shock traveling outward from 3.5 solar radius, for typical coronal conditions and low ambient wave intensities.

Superdiffusion of Cosmic Rays: Implications for Cosmic Ray Acceleration

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors employ the description of spatial separation of magnetic field lines in magnetohydrodynamic turbulence in Lazarian & Vishniac to quantify the divergence of the magnetic field on scales less than the injection scale of turbulence and show that this divergence induces superdiffusion of cosmic rays in the direction perpendicular to the mean magnetic field.

Using double radio relics to constrain galaxy cluster mergers: a model of double radio relics in CIZA J2242.8+5301

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present hydrodynamical simulations of idealized binary cluster mergers with the aim of constraining the merger scenario for this cluster and conclude that double relics can set constraints on the mass ratios, impact parameters, time-scales and viewing geometry of binary cluster merging, which is useful when detailed X-ray observations are not available.
