Three sibling species within Contracaecum osculatum (nematoda, ascaridida, ascaridoidea) from the atlantic arctic-boreal region: Reproductive isolation and host preferences

TL;DR: Genetic variation within and between population samples from 22 locations of the Atlantic Arctic-Boreal region, including 1657 specimens morphologically assigned to Contracaecum osculatum, was electrophoretically analysed at 17 loci and times of evolutionary divergence from 2 to 4 million years can be estimated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Autosomal, mitochondrial, and Y chromosome DNA variation in Finland: evidence for a male-specific bottleneck.

TL;DR: Genetic evidence for a population bottleneck is identified by examining variable microsatellite loci on the nonrecombining portion of Y chromosomes from Finland and four populations from Europe and the Americas by examining sequence data from mtDNA and autosomal dinucleotide repeat markers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Turkish honeybees: genetic variation and evidence for a fourth lineage of Apis mellifera mtDNA.

TL;DR: A novel mtDNA haplotype with a unique restriction site pattern and noncoding sequence was found among bees from Hatay, in the extreme south near the Syrian border, and may represent a fourth mitochondrial lineage of honeybee mtDNA.
Journal ArticleDOI

High performance computation of landscape genomic models including local indicators of spatial association

TL;DR: Samβada as discussed by the authors identifies candidate loci using genotype-environment associations while also incorporating multivariate analyses to assess the effect of many environmental predictor variables, which enables the inclusion of explanatory variables representing population structure into the models to lower the occurrences of spurious genotypeenvironment associations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reproductive biology and conservation genetics of goodyera procera (orchidaceae)

TL;DR: Allozyme electrophoresis and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) were used to evaluate genetic variation and structure of 15 populations of Goodyera procera and suitable strategies were developed for the genetic conservation and management of the species.

Coefficients of Inbreeding and Relationship

TL;DR: The importance of having a coefficient by means of which the degree of inbreeding may be expressed has been brought out by Pearl' in a number of papers published between 1913 and 1917.

The material basis of evolution.

TL;DR: Goldschmidt as discussed by the authors argued that macroevolution resulted from larger jumps in genotype across "bridgeless gaps" related either to systemic mutations or to mutations affecting early development.
