Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic variability maintained in a finite population due to mutational production of neutral and nearly neutral isoalleles.
TL;DR: It is estimated that among the mutations produced by DNA base substitutions, synonymous mutations, that is, those which cause no alterations of amino acids, amount roughly to 0·2–0·3 in vertebrates, suggest that neutral and nearly neutral mutations must be more common than previously considered.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Genome-Wide Association Study Identifies Susceptibility Variants for Type 2 Diabetes in Han Chinese
Fuu Jen Tsai,Chi Fan Yang,Ching-Chu Chen,Lee-Ming Chuang,Chieh Hsiang Lu,Chwen Tzuei Chang,Tzu-Yuan Wang,Rong Hsing Chen,Chiung Fang Shiu,Yi Min Liu,Chih Chun Chang,Pei Chen,Chien-Hsiun Chen,Cathy S.J. Fann,Yuan-Tsong Chen,Yuan-Tsong Chen,Jer-Yuarn Wu,Jer-Yuarn Wu +17 more
TL;DR: Identifying two novel genetic susceptibility loci in a Han Chinese population and confirming the involvement of KCNQ1, which was previously reported to be associated with T2D in Japanese and European descent populations, may lead to a better understanding of differences in the molecular pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes among various populations.

Mitochondrial DNA phylogeography and population history of the grey wolf Canis lupus
Carles Vilà,Carles Vilà,Isabel R. Amorim,Isabel R. Amorim,Jennifer A. Leonard,David Posada,Javier Castroviejo,Francisco Petrucci-Fonseca,Keith A. Crandall,Hans Ellegren,Robert K. Wayne +10 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that fluctuating population sizes during the late Pleistocene have left a genetic signature on levels of variation in both species, and a statistical parsimony analysis indicates local genetic structure that suggests recent restricted gene flow.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide scans for footprints of natural selection
TL;DR: These approaches to identify genome signatures of historic selective pressures on genes and gene regions in other species with emerging genome sequences are reviewed and compared to provide independent verification (or not) of regions found by different methods and using different populations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Population genetics of marine pelecypods. iv. selection, migration and genetic differentiation in the blue mussel mytilus edulis.
TL;DR: It is concluded that cumulative dispersal is sufficient to counterbalance inbreeding (together with any selection that operates non-uniformly) within the period of one life cycle.

Evolution in Mendelian Populations.
TL;DR: Page 108, last line of text, for "P/P″" read "P′/ P″."
Journal ArticleDOI
Coefficients of Inbreeding and Relationship
TL;DR: The importance of having a coefficient by means of which the degree of inbreeding may be expressed has been brought out by Pearl' in a number of papers published between 1913 and 1917.
Book
The material basis of evolution.
TL;DR: Goldschmidt as discussed by the authors argued that macroevolution resulted from larger jumps in genotype across "bridgeless gaps" related either to systemic mutations or to mutations affecting early development.
