TL;DR: The results indicate that a large number of older hypertensive men are treated with antihypertensive drugs in primary care, but that the goal blood pressure is not reached in a substantial number of patients due to undertreatment.

Matrix study of irbesartan with hydrochlorothiazide in mild-to-moderate hypertension.

TL;DR: The combination of HCTZ in doses up to 25 mg with irbesartan, in dosesup to 300 mg, is safe and produces dose-dependent reductions in BP, with at least one combination producing greater BP reduction than either drug alone.
