Food Intake Patterns May Explain the High Prevalence of Cardiovascular Risk Factors among Iranian Women

TL;DR: Eating patterns of this Middle Eastern population might explain the higher prevalence of some cardiovascular risk factors in this region, however, these findings need to be confirmed in other Middle Eastern countries.
Journal ArticleDOI

Exercise in Hypertension A Clinical Review

TL;DR: Evidence still exists that high intensity exercise may not be as effective as low intensity exercise in reducing elevated blood pressures, and Ambulatory technology may allow advances in individualising a more effective exercise prescription for low-responder and non-responders.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of exercise and weight loss on cardiac risk factors associated with syndrome X

TL;DR: Ex + WL is an effective treatment for hyperinsulinemia and lowering of diastolic BP in patients with the syndrome X, and results suggest that the effects of a 6-month intervention involving either aerobic exercise training alone or exercise combined with a structured weight loss program on CHD risk factors associated with syndrome X are evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Aldosterone as a mediator of progressive renal disease: Pathogenetic and clinical implications

TL;DR: Experimental evidence shows that selective blockade of aldosterone, independent of renin-angiotensin blockade, reduces proteinuria and nephrosclerosis in the spontaneously hypertensive stroke-prone rat model and reducesproteinuria and glomerulos sclerosis in the subtotally nephrectomized rat model.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prevalence, awareness, treatment and control of hypertension in Vietnam-results from a national survey.

TL;DR: Prevalence among adults is high, whereas the proportions of hypertensives aware, treated and controlled were unacceptably low, implying an urgent need to develop national strategies to improve prevention and control of hypertension in Vietnam.
