Diane R. Gold,Augusto A. Litonjua,Joel Schwartz,Eric G. Lovett,Andrew C. Larson,Andrew C. Larson,Bruce D. Nearing,George Allen,Monique Verrier,Rebecca Cherry,Richard L. Verrier +10 more
TL;DR: Particle and ozone exposure may decrease vagal tone, resulting in reduced HRV, in active Boston residents observed up to 12 times from June to September 1997.

Maternal intake of vitamin D during pregnancy and risk of recurrent wheeze in children at 3 y of age
Carlos A. Camargo,Sheryl L. Rifas-Shiman,Augusto A. Litonjua,Janet W. Rich-Edwards,Scott T. Weiss,Diane R. Gold,Ken Kleinman,Matthew W. Gillman +7 more
TL;DR: In the northeastern United States, a higher maternal intake of vitamin D during pregnancy may decrease the risk of recurrent wheeze in early childhood, according to a validated food-frequency questionnaire.

TL;DR: This large scale meta-analysis of methylation data identified numerous loci involved in response to maternal smoking in pregnancy with persistence into later childhood and provide insights into mechanisms underlying effects of this important exposure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rapid DNA Methylation Changes after Exposure to Traffic Particles
Andrea A. Baccarelli,Robert O. Wright,Valentina Bollati,Letizia Tarantini,Augusto A. Litonjua,Helen Suh,Antonella Zanobetti,David Sparrow,Pantel S. Vokonas,Joel Schwartz +9 more
TL;DR: Repetitive element DNA methylation varied in association with time-related variables, such as day of the week and season, and found decreased repeated-element methylation after exposure to traffic particles.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum Vitamin D Levels and Markers of Severity of Childhood Asthma in Costa Rica
John Brehm,Juan C. Celedón,Manuel E. Soto-Quiros,Lydiana Avila,Gary M. Hunninghake,Erick Forno,Daniel Laskey,Jody S. Sylvia,Bruce W. Hollis,Scott T. Weiss,Augusto A. Litonjua +10 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that vitamin D insufficiency is relatively frequent in an equatorial population of children with asthma and in these children, lower vitamin D levels are associated with increased markers of allergy and asthma severity.
