Journal ArticleDOI
The cutaneous pathology of Cowden's disease: new findings.
TL;DR: Histological, histochemical and immunohistochemical findings were studied in 40 cutaneous biopsies from 7 patients with Cowden's disease, revealing a distinctive type of fibroma characterized by an organized pattern of interwoven fascicles of collagen bundles with a laminated or tortuous appearance, embedded in abundant mucin.
Journal ArticleDOI
HPV types and cofactors causing cervical cancer in Peru.
C Santos,Nubia Muñoz,Stefanie J. Klug,Maribel Almonte,I Guerrero,Mayling Alvarez,C Velarde,O Galdos,M Castillo,Jan M. M. Walboomers,Chris J.L.M. Meijer,Eduardo Caceres +11 more
TL;DR: HPV is the main cause of both squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma in Peruvian women and long-term use of oral contraceptives and smoking were associated with an increased risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Concurrent Infection with Multiple Human Papillomavirus Types: Pooled Analysis of the IARC HPV Prevalence Surveys
Salvatore Vaccarella,Silvia Franceschi,Peter J.F. Snijders,Rolando Herrero,Chris J.L.M. Meijer,Martyn Plummer +5 more
TL;DR: Among combinations of specific HPV types, the tendency to cluster increased with the genetic similarity of the L1 region, and high observed-to-expected ratios were found for closely homologous types, including HPV33/58, 18/45, 33/35, and 31/35.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between dense CADM1 promoter methylation and reduced protein expression in high‐grade CIN and cervical SCC
René Overmeer,Florianne E. Henken,Peter J.F. Snijders,Debbie Claassen-Kramer,Johannes Berkhof,Theo J.M. Helmerhorst,Daniëlle A.M. Heideman,Saskia M. Wilting,Yoshinori Murakami,Akihiko Ito,Chris J.L.M. Meijer,Renske D.M. Steenbergen +11 more
TL;DR: The extent of CADM1 promoter methylation in cervical (pre)malignant lesions and its relation to anchorage‐independent growth and gene silencing is determined to select a CADM 1‐based methylation marker for identification of women at risk of cervical cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
CADM1 and MAL promoter methylation levels in hrHPV‐positive cervical scrapes increase proportional to degree and duration of underlying cervical disease
Mariska Bierkens,Albertus T. Hesselink,Chris J.L.M. Meijer,Daniëlle A M Heideman,G. Bea A. Wisman,Ate G.J. van der Zee,Peter J.F. Snijders,Renske D.M. Steenbergen +7 more
TL;DR: CADM1 and MAL promoter methylation levels in hrHPV‐positive cervical scrapes are related to the degree and duration of underlying cervical disease and markedly increased in cervical cancer.
